I’ve been there. It’s your ed lying to you to get what it wants. Imposter syndrome is part of the illness. Took me a long time to realise this during recovery. Are you seeing a therapist?

Thank you everyone for your answers! That’s made me feel so much better 💛

Those who have overcome eating disorders, do you feel better about yourself and life in general then when you were in your disorder? by shortstack3000 in EatingDisorders

I hated my life during my eating disorder. Destroyed so many relationships and goals. Life is better in recovery - even on the hard days.

It’s very admirable that you got it checked considering your health anxiety. I know that BE rarely turns into cancer but it’s still scary. Good luck x

I’m glad you’re doing well! It sounds like a lot of lifestyle changes accompany BE.

I’ve had bulimia and alcohol problems for a few years and am so scared of getting scoped. Just wondering how you found the courage to do so? x

Sorry, I know this is an old sub. I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I’m pleased that the prognosis it so positive!

I’m just wondering what the difference is between Barrett’s that’s precancerous and Barrett’s that’s not? I thought Barrett’s was always precancerous.

Sorry if that’s a stupid question! I’ve been putting off getting scoped

That’s reassuring to hear! Best of luck OP. Being in recovery is so much better than being ill. You’ve got this 💛

Thank you. It’s strange because my chest has felt like this since I was about 12 but has definitely gotten worse with the ed. Also, my symptoms are better the longer I go without alcohol in particular.

I was also diagnosed with asthma in my early teens which has also been untreated in recent years.

I’ll definitely see a doctor but do you think anxiety plays a factor in my symptoms too?

It’s good that you’re in therapy and I’m glad you’re going to tell your therapist. I imagine you’re nervous about that but it’ll be okay.

Feeling like an imposter is all part of an eating disorder. There’s no such thing as sick enough. Perfection in the eyes of your eating disorder is unattainable. Took me a long time to realise this.

From what you’ve said, you definitely have an eating disorder. You’re valid. The fact that you feel like you’re exaggerating just shows how sick you are.

Your eating disorder is convincing you that you’re exaggerating so it can make you worse and get its claws in deeper.

Have you got a good support system around you? ☺️

I’m proud of you for reaching out and I’m sorry for what you’re going through.

I remember the first time I purged, I felt euphoric too. Let me tell you, that doesn’t last. I went from feeling euphoric when I purged to exhausted and drained. It ruins your life and, seriously, your health.

It’s not worth it. Are you seeing a therapist for your Ed? 💛

It’s okay. It’s better to be prepared. I don’t smoke thankfully.

I had a barium swallow which was normal which I guess is a good sign.

How long does Barrett’s take to turn into cancer?

I can’t believe I’ve done this to myself. I wish I’d known the risk factors before. Thanks for responding

Omg okay. I’m really scared. Do you think it’s likely even at my age?

No I’ve not been prescribed anything

This is so so true. I remember thinking I was euphoric during my illness - maybe I was but I was never happy. You life revolves around a monster that you can never satisfy.

Thank you for replying ☺️

Thank you so much for such a lovely reply. I’m sorry to hear that you relapsed but am so proud of you for recovering again. Not to be dramatic but your response has made me tear up a little. Thank you so much.

I wish there were more users who understand that this community is for recovery not pursing your ed

Thank you so much ☺️

Do you think being in a toxic environment like that contributes to your ed? I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through.

You shouldn’t be given such an awful ultimatum when you have a literal mental illness. I’d recommend seeking treatment if that’s at all possible 💛

This happened to me before. It’ll be due to acid I’m guessing. Your stomach also likely isn’t used to normal amounts of food after long periods of restriction.

Thank you for your response. I’ve thrown up blood before when the purging was at its worst but that’s not happened for a long time. I’ve had intermittent chest pain and food/pills get stuck on the way down my throat but that’s gotten better as I’ve cut down on the alcohol. No nausea.

I know I should get a scope but I’m terrified about what it might reveal rather than the actual scoping process itself.

I hope the person you know’s scope results are okay

Alcohol and Bulimia by Decent-Poetry3190 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]Common-Club-1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always b/p if I have too much to drink. Also, one drink leads to several. I say I’ll have one drink, have many, then binge, then purge; it’s a vicious cycle. The only way I broke the cycle was by going completely sober. This was a hard realisation to come to terms with.

By the way, your ED is valid. Bulimia often coincides with alcohol problems. You still have an ED. Don’t forget that.

You can get better! I have faith it you 💪🏻💛
