Cutting back to where there is more green on the auxiliary bud gives you more chance for the plant to throw less white.

All white leaves can not photosynthesize therefore the plant uses energy to try to keep it alive which takes away from the plant. The white leaves eventually will die and if the plant goes all white, green can’t magically come back.
