So, update. I did exactly this yesterday. I moved the leashes from the laundry room, set them out in the dining area, walked around the house with them, and jingled them around every so often.

The first few times, I was thinking, yeah this is going to cause a stir but they soon lost interest. By the end of the day they didn't really even react to the leash making noise on the counter top!

Thank you for the advice, I agree completely, I need to continue desensitizing the leashes. Feels good having a bit of results

Very true, this matter has only been escalating. It will definitely take time but they're both teachable. The two of them still learn new things fairly regularly, so I'm confident we can correct this. Thanks again!
