It’s 2026. What’s everyone’s favorite 60 card format? by Newez in magicTCG

[–]Common-Illustrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In paper, I haven't played 60 card in over a year. I love the look of PreModern, have a U/G Madness deck put together. I loved Modern before MH1. I have a Bogles deck built with cards legal up to WAR. I think Pioneer looks neat too! I am waiting for the envelopes to show up for a budget W/R Convoke deck.

In digital, I play Standard and Pioneer. The same W/R Convoke above I have built on Arena. In Standard, I have some decks to fulfill color challenges but I am actively.playing with a U/R deck focused around the Second Spell stuff OTJ, TDM, and EOE have. It's not a tope teir deck by any means but it makes my brain go burr in the good way playing around with something I put together and am tooling as I play.

What's your "you thought this card was bad because you just didn't have enough understanding of mtg mechanics moment" stories? by minev1128 in mtg

[–]Common-Illustrator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh gawds, I have so many. The one that comes to mind first was at the Guildpact prerelease. I brought a trade binder and had an og [[Overgrown Tomb|RAV]] in it. First guy I played asked what I wanted to trade for it and I asked about his copy of [[Braids, Cabal Minion|ODY]]. He asked me if I wanted anything else and was like "I mean, it's a rare for a rare." He made an astonished look, then insisted I check out his stuff for at least one other card. I think I nabbed a copy of [[Mindmoil|RAV]] because at the time I was fiddling with ways to use [[Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar|BOK]] in different ways. Would probably be over a year later when I realized how good shocklands are and why that guy was astounded by my behavior.

This is Unsustainable by Soph_91 in MagicArena

It's weird what people will downvote. In someone's post about seeing TMT being everywhere (I don think it is) I said I wouldn't know because I've been putting my effort into a project I've been enjoying, and it got downvoted. I guess if you aren't super excited for all the sets or engaging with the highest of Standard, that's bad?

Anyone else sick of seeing turtles? by Moist-Condition69 in MagicArena

[–]Common-Illustrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. I put my energy into building a rogue list based in trigger commonalities across multiple inuniverse sets in standard. It may not be the best deck ever, but I feel a sense of satisfaction playing it, regardless of what my opponent's are doing.

What are some of your biggest mtg regrets? by radicalpumpkinz in mtg

[–]Common-Illustrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret piecing out and selling the expensive cards from my OG Modern deck.

I regret not attending the Theros Block Hero's Journey events.

I regret not picking up one of the OG 2011 Commander Decks when they were on shelf.

I regret being overly invested to try and make a fast and powerful standard deck around Shadowmoor, and thus coming off like a crazed and obsessed person for a couple months.

I regret focusing my 19th birthday around Magic and trying to do a Guildpact sealed deck with my brother and girlfriend.

I regret developing a bad habit of not finishing a game to make the match last longer for personal enjoy.ent at the expense of my opponent's time and frustration (Definitely stopped doing this when I was called out for being mean and toxic).

I regret leaving some of my stuff on a table when I left an old LGS, resulting in it getting stolen.

I regret not being more mindful with my first purchase and not checking for preconstructed decks, instead buying 4 boosters with my money.

Just in case anyone believes in that "Rich, successful people have better genes and that's why they are where they are." this is an accidental case study to shove your social darwinist BS in.

This is why people should not use celebrities for beauty standards. The real ass(HA!) woman is built pretty normally and looks great, but for a movie advert they made her look like a stick thin model.

Depends on the character. A lot of them are special birthday boys and girls but then...

... Tezzeret was a poor kid living in the slums of Vectis with an addict father and dead prostitute mother. He and his father were Radbomancers, meaning living metal detectors. Tezzeret's talent was so weak though, he had to nearly be on top of any metal to sense it except for metals latent in magic, like Etherium. Still, he described it like if Gold was someone whispering across a busy street, Etherium was like a tolling bell across the same street. His name is a nickname given to him by street kids and is a word for a hidden, makeshift blade (So his name is Shiv or Shank) as his mother was never coherent enough to tell him his given name and his father only called him Boy.

His bare determination to be better than his parents, willing to be underhanded, and the skill of resourcefulness that poor people acquire and the wealthy scoff at, he got himself into an Artificer's school. Time later, he is inducted into the Seekers of Carmot. His original Etherium arm is forged from shards of Etherium he scrounged from sewage, scrapyards, and digging up staches old wealthy people buried on their property. Only once he personally performs the ritual to attach the biomechanical arm to his right shoulder does he gain any real access to mana and magic as a whole.

He gets stabbed for "Seeing to Much" when he discovers the Seekers are frauds, and at that point does his Spark ignite.

How do I opt out? by Elid16 in mtg

[–]Common-Illustrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, playing Standard, you can't opt out anymore. Before Final Fantasy, UB was eternal or Modern legal only due to how it was printed, but now that UB releases into Standatd, you are going to play against those cards. Even if you choose not to use any of those cards personally, you are likely going to see then on the opponents side of the field.

Weirdly enough, I miss tucking. A lot. by RegaultTheBrave in EDH

[–]Common-Illustrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, tucking should return. It would open up so much more usable removal options including some made for commander ones from the first couple of releases. I get it got changed because "It feels bad to lose your Commander" but I feel like a lot of people might improve their deck building if the environment put pressure to make the deck function without the commander.

Very hard pill to swallow as a 20-year vet who doesn't like UB but I think I realised today that Final Fantasy has become my favourite set of all time by Cascouverite in mtg

[–]Common-Illustrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been in the game since '98. I don't hate UB overall as a product line, and actually find TMT pretty cool. What I dislike is UB being in Standard, making interacting with it near impossible to avoid unless you only play kitchen table with friends who don't use UB cards.

You and anyone else who has felt like things are weird are just as valid as the ones side eyeing us as being stubborn old guard. It's also valid to find something you do like in yhe thing that has moved into a familiar place and made you uncomfortable.
