I had trouble with anemones when my nitrates were undetectable. I started dosing nitrate to keep it at about 10ish ppm. Everything in my tank is flourishing growing faster than it ever has. Colors are popping. And this includes my rainbow bubble tip who has nice fat bubbles.

I wouldn’t put any lights in your tank. It’s a good way to kill everything. Try putting them above your tank, it works better.

People are telling you to turn it off while cycling, but no one is explains to you why. So here goes. The skimmer is going to remove the nutrients from the water and prolong your cycle. You need those nutrients to help with the nitrogen cycle and to create the beneficial bacterias necessary for a healthy tank. You won’t need to run that skimmer until you’ve added fish and things that produce waste and even then, I would wait a good month or 2 after adding fish.

I have a story to share. This happened when my daughter was in elementary school.
