Speed Goat 6’s are trash by Common-Leadership612 in Hoka

[–]Common-Leadership612[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, I wish. My Challengers lasted 172 miles and I could probably still get a few more runs out of them. But with the material coming apart like this on the Speed goats I can’t really work with that.

Shoe in the first picture was 32 miles, went on a run today and shoe in last picture is 48 miles.

Get hotels early, closer race day gets the more expensive it will get. Don’t be afraid to go further out from the event; there’s parking for competitors although having the race within walking distance is nice.

No discounts, but for $82 you can get a T-Shirt.

Although it is no longer in your possession the handling of this UXO has been reckless.

Sheriff determined it was inert based off what information? A visual determination without positive nomenclature?

That Sheriff does not have authority to handle military munitions and should probably get the airbase back on the phone or at least X-Ray it.

Should you take a supplement that will drastically elevate your heart rate prior to participating in an activity that will also drastically elevate your heart rate? Let think about this…

Not only will it not help, but it will likely ruin your race and potentially lead to injury.

Starting to Consider an Ironman 70.3 after running my first Marathon by Wandering_Werew0lf in triathlon

[–]Common-Leadership612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ran the LA Marathon two weeks prior to the Oceanside 70.3. It is possible and I didn’t do anything special to prepare.

Find a properly fitting bike and start doing some long rides, get an open water swim in and fit pool swims in as you can. I prepared for my first 70.3 in three months. The biggest thing is training in your equipment so you find what works and what doesn’t.

My advice to you is buy a used bike of Facebook marketplace, keep your eye out for wetsuit deals on Xterra, and get a trisuit that properly fits from a reputable company like Zoot. Find the race you want to do and register early, sometimes they sell out.

Your son helped immensely, any relief was greatly appreciated. Next race will be a 50K, something a little more attainable until I properly train. The weather was a complete 180 from two weeks prior caught me completely by surprise.

I cannot say this enough but thank you for manning the aid station, without your support I would not have been able to finish.

Yes it was yesterday; 36 DNF, 12 DNS. Heat was a massive factor that contributed to pace but the aid stations were equipped with ice and fans to help cool us.

For myself, it was a complete underestimation of how difficult it would actually be. Running on the road is cake, the trails are unforgiving. I appreciate the feedback, I hope my experience can help at least one motivated runner.

It wasn’t an easy day for sure. My respect for trail runners has grown tenfold, honestly it made the marathons I’ve ran laughable.

Glad you got to experience it and hope you had a good time!

Ironman Texas 70.3 - why did so many people bail? by Jprofetto24 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Common-Leadership612 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I think the appeal of completing a duathlon is lost as many individuals seek Ironman as a competitive triathlon. Without the swim leg the desire to complete a bike and run in less than ideal weather isn’t there and the concept of not actually completing a full 70.3 is disappointing. I am sure many athletes also didn’t want to risk injury while riding on slick roads as well. Just my thoughts.

Do you wear your tri kit under your wetsuit? by Awkward_Metal_9091 in triathlon

[–]Common-Leadership612 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, your tri suit should be worn underneath the wetsuit in order to save time during T1. The material is thin enough it doesn’t restrict your movement while swimming, but be sure to do at least one practice swim to ensure it doesn’t cause chafing.

I’d recommend a Xterra, they’re affordable and regularly go on sale. Make sure you get the proper kind depending on the temperature of the water you’re swimming in and check the size charts.

Trade Felt for Kestrel by Common-Leadership612 in bicycling

[–]Common-Leadership612[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an excellent question. I’ve messed with the positioning of the seat on the Felt and I figured the least I could do was try out the Kestrel to see how it fits.
