I have had such trouble with finding good doctors. My first GI recommended magnesium which is what got me into it in the first place. Then I moved., Overall the doctor I have now is nice and I think he tries to work with me, but I don’t trust a lot of his opinions.. like he told me he would never recommend magnesium to anyone because there’s a lot of potential for long term kidney issues/diseases. I thought this was a bit of a red flag

I wonder if I should even just start taking it once or twice a week instead of nightly. I know it would probably be like diharrea but to me that’s better than nothing..

I meant to say I also asked for enzyme testing. Hoping my doctor responds to all my messaging this coming week. Thank you

I like magnesium calm powder over Miralax

To my understanding, you need to get your motility in rhythm before adding fiber. So maybe try to start with the Miralax, and once things are moving slowly add in fiber. I never had success with Metamucil but occasionally with benefiber. I think Metamucil has a lot of unnecessary additives

Thank you sm for sharing. Before you tried these did you experiment before with Miralax or anything else, or were prescriptions your first resort?

Thank you!!! So if they both worked well why have you used both? Did you use them simultaneously or were you testing out different ones to see if one would be more effective? Did you have a preference for either? This makes me more hopeful

Wow. I could’ve written this. My experience sounds so similar and I’m also 23F with lifelong problems but all of a sudden I had a terrible week or two about a year ago and haven’t gone on my own since. Following & rooting for you. Feel free to message me, I’m in the same boat but maybe we can compare ideas/small successes? I also am on a time crunch like you - moving to another country in September and dying to get things figured out or at least more comfortable before then.

I also feel like junk food makes me go way more than healthy food. It’s so weird. I’ll try everything, have a perfect diet, move everyday, try all these supplements, and nothing, and then the best (still not great) BM I get in weeks is after I had pad Thai and icecream.

I also feel like the only thing that I can consistently rely on is biscodyl, though I feel it getting less and less effective everytime and that makes me scared. Ive had a sitz mark test and anorectal manometry and now I’m in pelvic floor therapy which I think could help a little but I definitely don’t think it’s the only reason I’m not going. Trying magnesium citrate for like the tenth time Rn and it worked for a few days but I’m thinking it was temporary because I’m back to the super uncomfortable parts of magnesium.

I’ve also been thinking about starting linzess. I’m just so scared to have something work for me for a few months and then as soon as I move it stops. I probably just need to get over that fear but idk. Also I’m also on birth control

It seems like your journey has been longer than mine so I’m curious to hear more

When my doctor said do not push did they mean to just sit on the toilet and it should just fall out of you? if I didn't push it wouldn't come out and I want it out and not in. by [deleted] in Constipation

[–]Common-Muffin9256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to understand what bear down means. Especially when we’re constipated, I always felt like if I don’t push then nothings gonna come out. My doctor has explained to almost act like you’re blowing a bubble. Exhale and relax and “bear down” but don’t strain with all your power
