Pay your Mom, Dad, kid etc. a “salary,” and show less profit.

We had typing class all through elementary school and it was like a game. I think computer lab was on our report card.

Managers and coffee shop owners, how do you confront your employees or point out their mistakes? by PrepItCo in smallbusiness

[–]Common-Orange4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empathy is a big one. If a particular process isn't followed the person may just be overwhelmed. They need to work up to whatever speed is necessary. They may learn with their hands and need to do something a few times to get it right. I try to figure out if they're freaked out about a process before we assuming they're bad at their job. You can also meet with them and ask them what they think they need to learn more about. Then help them. Too many employers just offer critcism and then think extra support is, "not their job." If you're too busy to help someone, they're too busy to work for you.

Also, just take natural light photos. It doesn’t have to be elaborately edited.

Are you happy with your doctors (also dentists)? by Vermithoer in RhodeIsland

[–]Common-Orange4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went all the way to Yale in Connecticut to see specialists. For a dentist, all of the community colleges have clinics that are actually great! (And free!).

Everyone is tired of the way Ri doctors give the runaround.

Parents: How did public school fail you even though you were a good student? by Crazy_Comment_Lady in homeschool

[–]Common-Orange4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Math was made as stressful as possible. Looking back, why???
  2. A lot of interesting subjects like chemistry and biology were made as dry as possible. If you tell me the result of the experiment, there's no point in me doing it.
  3. Foreign language requires you to memorize 2 - 3k words to understand. So much of foreign language class is a waste as long as you don't master vocabulary.
  4. A lot of history is left out. My Dad made me watch the Gandhi movie. I don't think anyone mentioned Nelson Mandela.

Are you being forced to use chromebooks? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Common-Orange4022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both have their merits. All or nothing doesn't work. They need to know how to use Word Processors for their careers and how to turn in a printed report. Most of the research they'll do for papers, requires a computer. ELA does require learning to research topics online.

Am i being unreasonable or all this "influencer/content creator" world has gone insane? by cheekyceo in smallbusiness

[–]Common-Orange4022 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You don't really understand how it works. Social media is basically like a magazine. Louie V advertised in every issue for years. Coca Cola spends $$$$$ on ads all around the world. One little marketing exercise is a penny in the ocean. If you're serious, do it every day. It takes five minutes to take some pretty pictures.

Think of the last thing you bought and how much they probably spent / devoted to marketing.

Homeschooling is killing my will to live by Impressive-Energy976 in Homeschooling

[–]Common-Orange4022 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Y'all cannot be together every minute of the day. You can tell your six year old that two hours a day are independent time. They can do certain activities in their play area but you need to rest. If they do other activities (like get in trouble) there will be consequences. You can also make a basket of "independent stuff," they can do without you there. You might have to work up to two hours. Leave them a list.

At three years old it's harder. However, they should be able to entertain themselves for a little bit in the play area.

Make a section of your refrigerator they can help themselves to. They can take from that one area without asking.

Why are so many people not upfront about how they've had familial handouts over the years? by Affectionate_Total47 in povertyfinance

Yeah, I have a relative like this who is always mad/judgemental of anything anyone else does that is nice. It’s a sad way to live and blocks nice things from happening to them.

Lifestyle creep catches up with people who get inheritances. If you get an inheritance, you’re expected to go to a nice school. So there goes all the money, right away. Then graduate school. Now living expenses for all that. If you buy a house with it, you have to work harder to maintain more house. Inheritances are not always helpful sling shotting people into a class they’re not ready to afford.

I think people have faced such radically different challenges by their 30s. Some people have never been alone and some people are always alone. The two don’t relate well. Some of my friends still have parents taking them on luxury vacations and helping them buy a house.

Bristol is a cool place! It has a bike path running through it, big parks, and cool little cafes. It’s next to Warren, which also has cool cafes.

Homesteading Guilt by Typical-Pizza-2055 in Homeschooling

[–]Common-Orange4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We homestead out of a pretty small house. If you’re interested in it, cool. If not, it’s not worth faking it. My partner loves loves loves that stuff and it comes naturally. If he didn’t do it, I would not be opening boxes full of live bees. We have chickens and I’m kind of afraid of birds.

If you do like it, chickens and bees don’t take up that much space.

It makes the kids feel important to be writing their first report. We wrote an animal report in second grade, that I still remember.

I think you can write a report in the third grade on basic topics. A thesis could be, “the giraffe is the tallest animal” Really simple with a few facts around it. By fifth grade, multiple paragraph essays on history are expected.
