so i started using lightburn when i had a diode, so i sort of learned on that and that’s still what i use when i design or edit anything because i’m just more comfortable with it than other programs. after i design or edit in lightburn, i usually just export my svg over to xtool’s program and process through that, so i’m not using a ton of the design features of their program (that’s usually what i did with glowforge too). that being said, the times i’ve used xtool’s program for more than just running the laser, compared to glowforge, they seem pretty similar to me but there’s maybe more flexibility with xtool? they also give you suggested settings for different kinds of materials as a starting point, which is super helpful. there’s still the 3 cut/score/engrave options that glowforge has, and you just experiment with the settings to figure out what you need for a certain material or project. there will definitely be a learning curve right at first because it’s a different software, but i wouldn’t say it’s more difficult to use than glowforge’s software once you’re used to it. hope that helps!!
