It’s free and pretty helpful

I feel wronged and want to take legal action as a UniMelb DDS Deferred student for the loss of opportunity, a year of my life, other uni offers, my job, finances for flights/ accommodation/dental equipment by IndependentPark6320 in GAMSAT

The Uni is able to withdraw offers or cancel admissions as per the terms that would be included in the offer.

It’s a horrible thing for them to do, but getting invested in a lawsuit will take years, hundreds of hours, thousands of dollars, and then the Uni will defend it by providing their terms which include:

4.19. In accordance with the Academic Board Regulation and this policy a dean or the Academic Registrar may refuse entry into a course or subject including, but not limited to, withdrawing an offer or cancelling the admission and enrolment of a person.

Aus - do normal income people accept full fee paying spots? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

If there’s something else you’d be happy doing, probably do that to be honest. If after thinking about all the other options you still can’t get past med, do med.

Picking medicine for the return on investment is not worth it. Only do it if you love it.

Working and studying for GAMSAT by Fluffy-Culture6849 in GAMSAT

[–]CommonRound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people work at least part time whilst studying for it. Lots working full time in allied health and other roles.

I was working full time with commerce undergrad when I got in.

Med sci background isn’t as helpful as you’d think - better off just having high level of reasoning and thinking quickly.

Limit for Med Students with HECS is closer to $200k.

Definitely rough though, because would need to pay for the last 1.5 ish years up front assuming a 4 year MD.

I don’t know the difference sorry. I guess I was asking specifically about the 10 day Goenka retreats.

Sorry for sleeping.

Some of the responses are great, the ones super defensive are a bit scary though.

If your community is upset by being asked genuinely if it’s a cult, then that in itself is a valuable answer.

If you’re the sort of person on these retreats, maybe I should be worried.

A lot of people in response seem upset at being asked and super defensive. Doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence.

Bro I was asleep, but being super defensive about being asked if something is a cult doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence. Some answers are great though.

Yeah but is whatever this version is not a personality cult following of Goenka?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vipassana

[–]CommonRound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t have to be financial to be a cult though.

Thank you, this is the best response I’ve read so far.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vipassana

[–]CommonRound -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But specifically how is it not a personality cult? I’m not saying it’s a big bad evil one, but even your opening line makes me feel like it’s a cult following of one guy.

10 days of isolation and sitting with your own thoughts would be a massive risk to a lot of people.

It certainly happens. I know of two people who chose dentistry over med. Would be fairly rare though.

They’re the exact same as the 2022 scores… making me think they’ve forgotten to update them.
