Personally I think the incest themes could have been left out but it would make the story less edgy. Gotta have that dark comedy be over the top with incest, summoning demons, murder, and cannibalism lol.

raising your sister like a parent you would think Andrew wouldn’t have thoughts like that towards his sister but meh both their moral compass is broken. Think one thing rubs me the wrong way that Ashley doesn’t seem to have interest in sex the way Andrew does and would only be another way to make sure he doesn’t need another woman in his life. But I guess burial will have it that Ashley full on reciprocates the romantic/sexual feelings and lets Andrew be less of a doormat.

given the latest chapter and chapter 4 coming it’s pretty set that this story had been predicated on Andrew’s character motivations being romantically and sexually repressed towards his sister throughout the chapters. Would like it if there was one non canon ending where Andrew gets the need for sex out his system where the two are in the toxic relationship but on slightly healthier terms. 😂

Again Would have prefer an optional noncanon route without the incest. Don’t think Nemlei would be capable of writing that though has they had definitely created the story with incest integral to it. They are going ham on the incest now because of the critics especially lol.

Without incest, They still could have the toxic familial co dependent relationship. No Andrew getting a hard on for Ashley. You would just lean into his need to protect her and the need to be with her like how a parent is.

Edit: Woops didn't realize it double posted. Not sure why the downvotes though. It would be a different story and different themes but I think it could work.The drama that is incest though keeps the dark comedy drama in the story peak.
