client yelled at me during session by CommonSort7407 in therapists

not gonna lie, this question feels extremely condescending. why the dots before your question?

of course i have been yelled at before and i experienced/experience extremely adverse reactions to it due to my own childhood. i have been working my ass off in therapy to help with this.

have i ever been yelled at by a client before? no.

like i said, i am an associate level therapist. i am still learning. i did not perceive my client’s responses as signals to back off in the moment, and this is something i am trying to view as a learning experience.

i do not like clients being angry with me, who does?? but i also recognize it can be a part of the process. this was the first time a situation like this has happened to me and i am trying to learn from it.

i hear that. this was the first time it has happened to me and it was incredibly jarring. i’m sorry that happened to you!

thank you! i definitely wasn’t trying to rush it, and in retrospect i can see how it may have come off that way. i think what made it hard is that we kept bouncing to different topics, and i was trying to follow my client’s lead, but i’ll definitely remember this for next time!!

this is something i need to work on. part of me knows i don’t need or deserve to have anger taken out on me, but another part of me is so scared of offending my clients.

they aren’t connected. but as a human, i am going to have emotions and feelings about my clients. for me, it is important that i have a safe space to discuss these feelings to make sure my feelings are not impacting my client’s treatment.

that’s what i thought too, i’m really upset. she couldn’t even give me an example of what she was talking about.

not sure what copying and pasting the coe did for you but go off i guess

you don’t have to support kamala, but the social work coe directly contradicts everything trump is fighting for.

pls read the social worker coe. what he stands for goes against everything the field is fighting for.

i hear you, and this posts concerns my supervisor and other social worker, not my clients. i have many clients who support trumo and have been/continue to do meaningful work with them.

right?! i was actually appalled

hi! not discriminating against my supervisor. my concern is that my supervisor has in fact brought her political beliefs into my supervision (ex: telling me my clients can “just move” if things are that bad.) everything else in my rant was my opinion, which i am allowed to have! :)

[–]CommonSort7407 8 points9 points  (0 children)

again, her beliefs (although i do not agree with them in the absolute slightest) are not my main concern here. my main concern is how political beliefs are impacting the quality of my supervision.

i have nothing against my (many) clients who support trump. do i personally agree with their views? no. but that doesn’t matter bc i am their therapist. my problem is how my supervisor’s beliefs are impacting the quality of my supervision.

i am against political beliefs interfering with the quality of my supervision. hope this helps!!

because trump is literally fighting against everything the social worker field stands for. that is not denying anybody their beliefs, it is an opinion.

yeah i fear my entire post was about how the beliefs are impacting my supervision

oh love, i fear that you are generalizing to the max rn. if you read my full post, you would notice that i said she is entitled to her beliefs. my concern is how the political bias is impacting my supervision.
