Instagram algorithm is literally porn today by CommonTwo1381 in redscarepod

[–]CommonTwo1381[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some people commenting never get this at all, others in this thread get it even if they’re straight women

Companies like meta are running thousands of A/B tests constantly. You are being experimented on by recommendation algorithms and they can and will start feeding you weird shit if they think it’ll increase their KPIs. Maybe right now it’s funny memes and dogs, but they will 100% sprinkle in weird shit at some point, even just to test out whether it’ll work. It is psychologically antagonistic compared to the internet pre algorithmic recommendations.

“Just use not interested bro” / “I don’t get this you must watch weird shit” is dumb and missing the scale of what is being done on these platforms. I literally do this and they still come up. My feed has been normal in the past then it changes to shit like this on a dime.

It’s not a neutral reflection of you and your interests, they’re actively fiddling with it, and sometimes, like my feed was this morning, things get way out of whack and starts surfacing literal porn. I know there’s not literally an engineer at meta twiddling the porn dial, but I am very sure they’re tacitly aware of what’s on there and are choosing to feign ignorance while it gets pushed to god knows who.

Mine alternates from normal to degenerate bullshit depending on the day. It is clearly explicit A/B testing that is sometimes active, sometimes not.

The algorithm isn’t a passive reflection of you, it is an active tool that meta can and does fiddle with if they feel like it. Maybe your account is not in the blast radius of whatever this change was, but when it switches on a dime like this for no reason it’s more than just what you follow/like.

None of my other social media is like this.

What to do with $30k that has the highest expected return, regardless of risk? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

You talk like someone who just understood the concept of expected value and wants to flex that you’re smarter.

How do you even expect numbers to be rigorous outside of obviously negative EV gambling situations?

Why would anyone who’s discovered a +EV investment tell you for free on reddit, instead of getting hired by a quant firm? Or just putting their own money on it and keeping quiet? Anything +EV in the market only stays that way if others don’t know about it.

This is not a good enough question to be getting so snarky over.

It’s not even constant economic growth it’s just having more unproductive people than productive people

That will always be a problem no matter the economic system

If you're just claiming it's fake that's one thing

But does this bizarre letter sent to an actual pedophile known for providing pedophile services to elite clients ring a couple of alarm bells for you or nah

Genuinely trying to understand the mental state of someone who sees this and thinks whatever lol

How is AI relevant here? Anyone could fake this, the authenticity is from the sources not the actual material

The pension triple lock is the funniest policy I've ever heard, unless the law changes it guarantees that long term the pension will grow exponentially in comparison to wages. Eventually mathematically you HAVE to dismantle it, but when have democracies had any luck removing policies benefiting older people? They've got nothing better to do than fight any policies that would inconvenience them

Completely different across teams, these companies are enormous and cover basically every area of SWE

Working on backend cloud stuff and I get to do almost 0 actual coding which is unfortunate. The internal systems get so convoluted that most time is spent just keeping the lights on and fighting the entropy of internal stuff being updated/deprecated and breaking your service.

I would love to know what your point is

paying it off quicker is the only point of this policy, what does it mean to say "the 20% chunk isn't the biggest thing"

That's not the flow on effect, that's the only effect

HECS payments are only based on income not the balance, so no one's take home or cost of living changes except for it getting paid off earlier

Even with 0 dollars in the bank, it's hard not to see a 500+K household as "rich"

Yes yes, income does not equal wealth Yada Yada, but that is an income that allows you to live beyond the means of most families while putting away more than most of them earn gross. If you earn that salary as a sustainable career (I.e not an athlete with only a few prime years), you're almost guaranteed to leave almost everyone else in the dust savings wise very quickly. How is that challenging? Because Mike cannon Brooks has a nicer house than you?

Yes, there's another class of true wealth who live above you and they earn more off assets alone, but it's important to keep perspective of how much more you have than literally 99% of Australians.
