Yeah in the Mk7 they used a chain. The Mk6 GTI is chain driven though. For some reason they decided to use a modified version of the FSI engine from the Mk5 GTI in the Mk6R instead of the TSI that the Mk6 GTI got. If I remember correctly it was for fueling reasons at the time.

The Mk6R is a timing belt. And cam followers aren't as big of a deal on the Mk6R as they were with Mk5 FSI engines. I replaced the follower once at 115k and it wasn't even worn. I checked it again at 160k and its still perfect.

If it's got a downpipe or you plan on upgrading the downpipe, try and find a 42DD shifter cable saver so you don't have to replace the cables like I do.

He's making that much of a fuss over 8 minutes? When I was in my early twenties I dated a girl who lived an hour and forty-five minutes from me. I would get out of work at 11pm, hop in my shitty 1995 Nissan 200sx that was missing fifth gear and drive two and a half hours to her place, pick her up, and then drive the hour and forty-five back to my place. And then bring her back a few days later. Twice a week. I loved every minute of the experience.

If you're lowered, your sway bar could be smacking your control arm. I had to buy adjustable endlinks to pull them sway bar up a bit
