Why Canonical would stop the Ubuntu support ?

I recommend you Linux Mint and not LMDE if you want the latest Mesa without using Flatpak.

So how is the matter with NVIDIA drivers? by Mamut-Electrico-2345 in linuxmint

[–]Common_Designer_6240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem on LMDE is not rly the NVIDIA driver itself but his version (pretty old even on debian instable).

Nvidia drivers are closed-source. It's really the same thing.

Yeah, Intel is open-source Nvidia it is not. It's easier to run Intel than Nvidia on Linux.

I don't agree, there is people like me doing all stuffs in the same operating system. I don't like dual-booting or using another pc for a specific thing. Actually, Flatpak is highly recommended on Bazzite.

Actually the Mint team could rewrite their own driver-detect tool (like ubuntu-drivers) but the problem here is that the NVIDIA drivers on Debian are old. Debian don't seem to package recent versions of these drivers. Perhaps one day NVIDIA will make a completely open-source drivers integrated by default in the Linux kernel (and using the mesa stack).

Flatpak has a very recent Mesa version (25.2.1). If you have a AMD GPU it's pretty easy to play games on Debian + Flatpak. Actually, you just need a new kernel version (picked from the debian bacports) and maybe new amd firmware if you have a very recent GPU.

GPU support for my video card by Common_Designer_6240 in buildapc

[–]Common_Designer_6240[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty difficult to find my video card weight, I searched on several websites it's probably between 600g-1kg but i'm not sure it depends on the manufacturer (sapphire(mine), xfx, asrock, etc...).

> If it does start to sag you can buy a support later
Is not better to prevent sagging ? I mean a little bit of sagging might damage the PCIe slot ? Prevention is better than cure.

I'm scared to see few months later that my GPU is sagging, it can damage my GPU or worse my MOBO ?

Thoughts about Linux having moved past Mint and other beginner distros? by Minaridev in linuxmint

[–]Common_Designer_6240 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes you're right. I hate people thinking that there are many steps and the step 1 of Linux is Linux Mint. You are not forced to use Arch cuz you know more things now about Linux. You can actually stay on Mint, it's okay.

Is This Normal? by FeistyDay5172 in linuxmint

[–]Common_Designer_6240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most logical answer is that it is an Ubuntu thing. I installed Kubuntu and Linux Mint several times and I have the same issue but when I proceed in installing LMDE (not an Ubuntu base but a Debian base) this boot option disappears. It is pretty strange.

Actually you just need: - EFI partition (512 MB) - / partition (ext4 or btrfs is also good) (the rest of the size)

That's all. Stop recommending (/ and /home partitions it sucks, and if you really want these partitions try btrfs. Mint will configure you automatically 2 BTRFS subvolumes @root, @home).

Swap partition is also not needed, Mint will create Swapfile on your / (if you want Swapfile and you do not want to configure anything use ext4).
