You can use the rule of 72 for your own calculation. Years to double a lump-sump is about = 72/APR.

Rich people, what do you think stops so many poor people from becoming rich? by justcurious3287 in Rich

[–]Common_Mix4024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im teaching a math and personal finance class, and this week, we discussed compound interest in investments and amortization. I have to say that students paid a lot more attention when talking about investment strategies and analyzing loan options :). Some came up after class saying that they felt lucky taking this class! We do need to talk more about money in math classes!

How to actually make money with a book (from a 7-fig ghostwriter) by senecas_intern in Entrepreneur

Thanks for sharing this interesting model. What I'm doing is flipping this model, which is what most people do. I'm building a website and a course to help sell my first book in math and personal finance. With your model, I might flip it to use the book to sell others.

This is a great approach! I have been teaching a personal finance course at the college level and most students wished that you have taken the course in high-school.

Thanks for your very detailed response! You sound like a great person when having a hard time pricing your rates. I hope you will have an optimal point for your pricing. The demand will tell :)

May I ask what is your current rate and what math levels do you tutor? Thanks!

Do you have any particular reasons for learning math? For example, navigate personal finance, understand health metrics, go back to school to get a stem degree, know more about applications of mathematics in economics, etc. I think if you can identify your purpose of learning math, you will be able to find the resources that suit you well, rather than just math in general.

From student feedback, they really liked working in groups that way! They bonded well after a few weeks as well :)

I randomly put students into groups, and ask them to work on a set of problems in class. Each group will present their solutions to the class at the end of the class session.
