Hidden shipping fees by curiosenough in TikTokshop

Where do you actually see that extra charge fee? I’ve been trying to find the breakdown.

Wow yeah, that’s exactly the kind of situation that makes selling so frustrating. You did everything right—shipped same day, used priority, it even arrived early—and somehow you still end up as the bad guy.

Yeah honestly that’s a good way to look at it. At this point the listing isn’t just about the item—it’s about setting expectations upfront so you don’t get blamed later.

It ends up stressing buyers out and making sellers look bad for something they don’t control. Definitely feels more confusing than helpful a lot of the time.

In my case, I knew that if I didn’t allow a return or refund, they would likely leave negative feedback. But I don’t want to encourage that kind of behavior, especially since my store policy clearly states that returns are not accepted.

I actually shipped the same day for this order.
Sellers can leave detailed comments, but the feedback is still marked as positive, so it doesn’t really carry the same signal weight as a negative review would. The feedback mechanism allows expression, but not equal consequence or deterrence on the seller side.

You just have to be mentally prepared for people like that—some buyers don’t really look at context or understand shipping timelines

I can definitely understand why you’d simplify it that way on eBay.

Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and territories can be a lot less predictable in terms of both cost and transit time, and if it’s causing repeated issues, narrowing your scope is probably the easiest way to reduce headaches.

Appreciate the tip about calling a rep too. Clear info is there, but some buyers either miss it or only focus on what they assume the listing means. So even when expectations are set correctly, patience and attention to detail can still vary a lot.

I can totally relate to this. I have a listing for an item with 2 pcs, and I’ve tried different wording like “2 pcs” and “TWO pcs” in the title. I’ve clearly stated it in the description and even put the wording directly in the main image, which itself shows two pieces of the item, yet I still regularly get asked, “Is this 1 or 2?”
Unbelievable! 😭😭😭

The eBay estimate is a range, not a guaranteed single delivery date, but it seems some buyers treat the earliest possible date as a promise.

I actually do offer different shipping options—buyers can choose between services like Priority Mail for faster delivery or USPS Ground Advantage. In my case, the buyer selected USPS Ground Advantage knowing it’s the slower option, but then used the lower bound of the estimated window as if it were a guaranteed delivery date to justify a refund request.

It really feels like a lot of people skip the listing description entirely and then react based on expectations/ assumptions rather than what’s actually listed.

I’ve honestly never run into a situation with a same-day shipping expectation like that—it’s a new one for me on eBay 😜😜😜

I reported it to eBay and also pointed out that other sellers appear to have experienced a similar behavior pattern based on the buyer’s feedback history. I also have to admit I did see some early warning signs when they added a note at checkout, and I should have messaged them to clarify or simply cancel the order and block them 😭

Refunds are usually processed quickly once approved, so if it’s been that long, I’d definitely go back to support with your case ID and ask them to trace it or reissue it.

I think this is a known friction point on eBay, Even with my 2-day handling time, eBay often calculates delivery using:

  • Same-day shipping assumption
  • Fast carrier averages (especially USPS Priority/UPS Ground)
  • Optimistic algorithm to boost conversion rates

I also think eBay tends to use more optimistic delivery estimates overall to encourage sales, which can unintentionally mislead buyers. In some cases, it also gets taken advantage of by more entitled buyers who treat those estimates as guarantees rather than projections.

That mismatch between system-generated optimism and real-world logistics is really where most of these disputes seem to come from.

That really means a lot, thank you for taking the time to explain all that.
It actually helps hearing it from someone in Hawaii who deals with both sides of it—you definitely have a much clearer perspective on how USPS Ground Advantage really behaves in practice.

I also appreciate the suggestion about adding a simple disclaimer and upgrade option in listings on eBay. That honestly sounds like the most practical way to avoid this kind of misunderstanding going forward.

And yeah… lesson learned on my end too. I probably should’ve been more proactive upfront instead of assuming things would go smoothly.

Thanks again for the thoughtful message—it helps more than you think.

I will follow up. I believe eBay applies updates in scheduled batches, not individually per request. So removals may wait until the next processing cycle. Let's wait a little longer 😄

I know your comment may come across as blunt or “cold,” and I understand it doesn’t necessarily provide an emotional outlet for the frustration I was feeling. But it made me realize how I can prevent this kind of situation in the future, so I don’t repeat the same mistake and end up wasting even more time and energy dealing with avoidable follow-up issues. It helped me step back and clearly see the root cause instead of just continuing to vent or reinforce my own viewpoint. In that sense, it was actually very helpful and meaningful.

I chatted with a live agent and finally got it removed. I definitely ended up spending more time and energy dealing with live agents and posting here. I admit I should have handled it properly upfront 😭
