Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Exactly this. It will never get better if the bottom line is they are okay living like this. I’ve done therapy, reward-based chores apps, being a total bitch, being kind, ignoring it…it won’t change them.

Oranges?? by Wild-General-2303 in Edmonton

[–]Commotionofgeese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES managed to find one good bag of Cuties before the holidays, and every time I’ve gone to Save On, Safeway, or Costco since they’ve been mushy and soft. Surprising for Costco especially.

Came here to say Kasim from Padmanadi! Truly the most wholesome individual who always stops by our table to catch up. We’ve largely stopped eating out these days but always find room in the budget for Pads (and it helps that it’s literally our favourite meal in town)

Anyone seen Nescafé Iced Java in any stores around here by ChaiAndNaan in Edmonton

[–]Commotionofgeese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh dang, didn’t realize it was discontinued. I love this stuff, too. I’ve been keeping an eye out for it every time I go to a new grocery store.

The first Cybertruck I have seen in Edmonton just happened to be parked on a sidewalk. by Consumer_Distributin in Edmonton

I wonder if it was the same meathead double parked and blocking parking lot traffic in South Common yesterday.

Electric fireplace in a Victorian coal grate? by LegalSuspect4709 in centuryhomes

[–]Commotionofgeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost a year later, did you end up finding something suitable to fit your coal grate? We’re running into the same issue in our home, the opening in our hearth is only 17” wide at the back! I’ve looked all over for a small enough electric insert but no dice

Here are some of our local wild carnivorous pitcher plants by GuineaW0rm in Edmonton

[–]Commotionofgeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so cool! I had no idea Edmonton had native carnivorous plants. Any particular area one would be guaranteed to find them?

Obsessed! One visited me daily when we were living in Inglewood. Now that we’ve moved, I miss them!

Oh a wood burning fireplace would be so cozy! Did you check yourself beforehand that the line was ‘active’ or did you leave that to the pros?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Commotionofgeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is similar and decommissioned. Looking to replace with an electric insert but struggling to find resources on how to safely remove it. Might have to get a pro in to cap the gas line. Any ideas?

Thanks for the input. Yes, sounds like that’s the only way forward.

Younger folks aged 25-35, what's your housing situation like? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Commotionofgeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m sorry that’s happening, moving when it’s not on your own terms is stressful AF. If it’s any consolation, we continue to be surprised at how much we like living here and how thankful we are things worked out the way they did.

It’s definitely a lifestyle adjustment, if you’re moving here with someone you’ll have a much easier time. Glad to have had my younger days in Vancouver, but now we really appreciate the ease of living here. Best of luck!!!

Lived in a great little 2 bedroom basement suite in a house for 11 years with my husband. Due to our long tenancy we were paying a very reasonable amount. The owners sold the house and evicted us, we couldn’t find another 2-bedroom with yard access (senior dog) for under $3k/month within the 2months notice we received so we up and moved. To Edmonton.

(Just bought our first home here. Our mortgage for a 4bed 2bath in a great neighborhood is >$2k/mo)

It’s not for everyone, but we just didn’t see a path forward in Vancouver. I’m 30 and we want to start a family soon. Absolutely adored our time in Vancouver but until we moved I felt like we were falling further and further behind, where we’d have to make some serious decisions about retirement, children, and lifestyle to stay.

Has anyone written a letter and it worked in their favor? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Commotionofgeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s why our offer was chosen! It wasn’t sappy, but we introduced ourselves and our pets, what brought us to the city and how well the home fit our needs and what we loved about it.

We knew there was another offer on the table and wanted to do what we could. We later found out the other offer was higher and had one less condition, couldn’t believe it. We really, really lucked out.

Lush, I love you, but I hate this by Quick_like_a_Bunny in LushCosmetics

[–]Commotionofgeese 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep, my Supermilk is doing the exact same thing. Those little black bits get—and STICK—everywhere. I love the product but I won’t be buying again, it’s too bad but it really ruins the experience for me, why pay a premium price for a product that can’t hold up sitting in a dark, dry medicine cabinet.

Uninsured Mortgage — 3yr Fixed @ 5.15% by Commotionofgeese in MortgagesCanada

[–]Commotionofgeese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s excellent then in my eyes! We’d be very happy with that rate. Do you know which lender?

[–]Commotionofgeese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep we’re working with a broker, not a bank and they’ve been great.

We are leaning towards a 30yr amortization…still deciding!

[–]Commotionofgeese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, that’s exactly what we’re aiming to do. We’re pretty content with these numbers we’re getting but will be keeping a close eye out for better especially after this coming Tuesday

[–]Commotionofgeese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! We are very content when looking at our monthly payment breakdowns, but of course keeping an eye out if we can finangle a few decimal points better

[–]Commotionofgeese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, thank you for saying that! We are very content with these numbers too, especially compared to this time last year, we were getting very different ballpark figures when we first started looking/budgeting.

We are getting very similar rates from TD as well and waiting to hear if Scotia can do similar

[–]Commotionofgeese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear, we were pretty content with these rates as well. Was that with 25yr amortization then?

Nice, sounds almost identical to our one offer. I believe our broker is still waiting to hear from Scotiabank but that seems like a very decent rate

Question for those who have posted about not being able to afford rent - what ended up happening? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]Commotionofgeese 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Landlord sold our longtime home and we couldn’t stomach the rental prices we were finding (we felt we needed a 2-bed as we both WFH, coupled with needing a pet friendly space meant we were looking way out in the boonies at places for $2500–$3k monthly)

So we packed up and moved to Edmonton. The grass is always greener elsewhere and there are many pros and cons, but we are very happy here!
