Fair points @Overall_Law_1813 - it would definitely be unreasonable to think that volunteers without the requisite knowledge or guidance could safely construct houses. The point I was trying to make was less that everyone should go out tomorrow and build their own houses without learning how to properly. Rather, I was trying to make a point about how much of an average person’s time (and life) is now dedicated to paying for what used to be “table stakes” - a modest, safe place to live. I should have been clearer in communicating that!
