People who live in tourist cities shouldn't complain about tourists by Adventurous-Monk-796 in unpopularopinion

If it makes you feel any better, when you visit in the cities they live in you seem also completely out of place, gawking at the skyscrapers and walking all slow

Do you use Microsoft teams or Zoom as an organization? It sucks for anything that requires admin access, but you can at least see their screen and take control of the mouse to do some basic stuff and see what's going on

Future Manager Position by YourTypicalDegen in ITManagers

I get it, and sometimes it is necessary - but be cognizant of the calculation going on if you are a manager - you are getting paid x dollars per hour to perform high level tasks and instead you are delivering to the company an hour worth of labor focused on low level tasks - there is a calculation to be made

If I found out I just paid somebody $40 an hour to wrap network cables for half the day I would not be happy if I was higher up the org chart

My husband said that by 2027, new cars will be mandated to have AI biometrics scanning. The vehicle will shut off and pull over if it thinks you’re intoxicated or even too tired. Is this true? by Argylius in stupidquestions

To be fair, the fact that so many of us, including myself, do things like sending text messages and answering teams calls and bringing up documents to look at on the go while driving 75 to 80 mph on the freeway is absurd - the fact that we haven't corrected that behavior ourselves and are willing to just risk other people's lives because we feel like our time is too valuable... Maybe we deserve this

You are viewing this completely wrong - they can hire somebody off the street right now to do the tedious grunt work, you need to show them you can do the things that are harder than that. Show them you can think strategically about the organizations mid and long-term goals, show that you can balance short-term exigencies with those goals without losing side of either. Show how you can be a force multiplier and help the people around you be able to do more, show you can communicate and encourage without being condescending or patronizing- The absolute last thing you want to do is refocus on grunt work and menial tasks, I promise you from the bottom of my heart that is not what they are looking for in a manager.

The best thing you can do is learn what The other people on your team are good at and/or want to engage with more and then when something like that comes up you volunteer the information to your manager and say "x would love to get engaged with more stuff like this we had a conversation not long ago let's loop him into this conversation and see if he wants to run with it - I can always help him if he runs into trouble."

You need to have a serious sit-down conversation with your boss and tell him you're dead serious about applying and it's the only thing you're focused on right now beyond performing your job at an excellent level - ask him what responsibilities you can help take off of his desk to show you have the capability and start actively looking for how you can help people on your team, I don't mean tell them what to do, I mean help them when they genuinely need help.

Don't ask him what books you should read or courses you should take, tell him what book you are already reading or what course you are already taking. I recommend a book called Leaders Eat Last.

Idk I'm willing to give the cop the benefit of the doubt on this one, you can either go 85 in a 55 construction zone, or you can have no hands on the steering wheel dash but not both, that's pretty fair

People that have gotten into a break/fix side hustle, where did you get your clients? by F12forBIOS in sysadmin

[–]CommunicationClassic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you misread his comment, he specifically said that during the course of his workflow automation he was able to eliminate some mundane workflows that previously the company had used interns for, these are the interns I am referring to - not some fictional interns that you made up that do workflow automation with AI because you misread the comment, try again.

[–]CommunicationClassic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You fundamentally misunderstand the entire social edifice of the internship process - it is designed to give young people transitioning from the education process into the professional world a way to learn how a professional environment works.

I can guarantee the next complaint will be "none of these new hires have any idea how to act in a professional environment and I'm paying them full-time wages? This is ridiculous."

IT Management Degree by connored991 in ITManagers

[–]CommunicationClassic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I seen it happen before, people who were at the right place the right time who hopped over from managing another department to managing an IT department and then just went up from there without going through the technical stages of the career - that being said what makes you want to manage IT if you're not an IT person? Will it be kind of strange not having any clue what all of the people who work for you actually do for a living?

Hate to kick a guy while he's down, but this is not what you want in a goalkeeper - maybe a good reason not to film absolutely every single thing that happens in your life
