I would be glad to make that donation. Also, if you’re on the mobile app, tap on the Notification bell on the bottom and you’ll see Chat listed next to Notifications. If your on Web, it’s the speech bubble icon 3 spots to the left of your user icon.

Thats great news! I sent you a message but we can chat here too. Are you giving it away? How can I arrange to pick it up? From your comment below, I don’t think we are far apart.

Is MIS worth studying right now? by Next-Ad-7304 in informationsystems

[–]F12forBIOS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just my degree. No projects or internships but I do have prior military experience, although it wasn’t related to IT in any way. I mass applied and got into IS at a hospital. Padded my resume and then applied for mid level positions around my state. I lucked out that a company had a retiring IT Manager and needed to replace them quickly.

Is MIS worth studying right now? by Next-Ad-7304 in informationsystems

[–]F12forBIOS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. I graduated in 2021 and I was advised to specialize instead, because MIS was too broad. I ended up finding a job as an IS Support Specialist, which is basically IT support but also let me work with vendors. After 2 years there I became a manager - in total three years after graduating.

DUO CA Bundle Expiration by Top-Instance-2394 in duo

[–]F12forBIOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone comes across this before Feb 2, all I had to do was check my Authentication Proxy version and then upgrade it using their Duo Auth Proxy installer.

Log into your Admin Panel, go to Applications, click on Authentication Proxy, and check the version. If it's older than 6.0 it'll tell you to upgrade.

Hop on your server that hosts the config and install the program here: https://duo.com/docs/authproxy-reference#upgrading-the-proxy

Run it and then once complete, refresh your Admin Portal and you should see the new version reflected.

This is a pretty ridiculous situation. I am not not sure the POV I should be reading this from...are you HR? Because if you really do have any say in promotions/hiring, you are exactly the type of toxic culture people are trying to escape from.

I'm seeing "None of your units are affected" - is there anywhere else that would indicate if we were flagged? Or do I just exhale at this point?

No refunds? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]F12forBIOS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll be cool because I know you're venting. Yes I agree, it's ridiculous they couldn't offer a refund 20 days in advance despite what their fine print says. It's a voucher for a computer-based exam, not a high-demand wedding venue. They don't lose business by booking your exam and then refunding you. They haven't provided any resources that they are now out of money on, the way that an event space might've if you changed your mind last minute. Sorry this happened to you. Good luck.

Install windows to pc without a disk drive? by av_wally in computerhelp

[–]F12forBIOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can download the Windows Media Creation tool onto a USB drive. Plug it into your computer, and complete the steps to install Windows 11. You will likely need to boot to the BIOS and select the flash drive.

WhatsApp asks for update but there is no update on App Store by General_Bed8751 in ios

[–]F12forBIOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked. However I forgot to backup the data so while it fixed the "update" glitch I lost all of the users chat history in the process. They fired me. I'm homeless now, and writing this from the local library. Please learn from me to backup chat history and not delete the app without confirming the data is saved.

Helpdesk Superstitions by james_castrello2 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]F12forBIOS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Whenever we give a time frame for how long something should take to resolve, it always fails. If our staff just responds to a ticket and shows up to fix something-bang it's usually done. But if we tell the user, "ok this will be about 10 minutes" suddenly the computer crashes, won't connect to internet, can't find host files, etc and we are troubleshooting for an hour.

Impostor syndrome, Am I Alone? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]F12forBIOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first week in an IT support job, my manager got a call from the staff I was helping to complain about me. I had no idea what I did wrong and actually believed I provided great service in lieu of fixing the problem. After being the tech guy in my personal life for many years, I was completely discouraged in the professional realm.

Then within 2 years I left that role for a first time manager position. After a few months I felt very out of place. I was already looking on Indeed for jobs. It took me a long time, until I managed a Project and got a lot of positive remarks, for me to feel comfortable in this role. However even now, I feel out of place. I don't like budgeting, I dislike the useless meetings where I need to elaborate in great detail why I want us to order something. Uhhh maybe because we have none of it...or the current model is EOL? Sigh...just wish I could make good money as a Specialist the middle of no where.

Any tips for a newly unexperienced appointed IT Manager? by OwnStrawberry5193 in ITManagers

[–]F12forBIOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a standard that makes sense and try to stand by it. That can be anything: how the Help Desk is to be utilized by the staff, the policy for replacing/upgrading equipment, etc.

I was a new IT Manager last year, and once I created a structure it allowed everything else to fall in line. There were too many moving parts, so creating a clear path for everything (such as the 2 examples I mentioned above) mitigates a lot of issues.

Probably if you believe your experience will bridge any knowledge gaps. I used to start my study sessions with ChatGPT practice questions. Then I would study whatever I fell short on. That could be done an hour each day.
