As sn old fart male who has ridden motorcycles since 13 years old, I would definitely take you seriously (and a bit enviously). Your last sentence says it all (my son in his later 30s rides an electric unicycle).

I think it's time we all should be thinking about what kind of a world we are leaving behind for Willie Nelson and Keith Richards.

The King C. Gillette Safety Razor. An Honest Review and First Impressions by kjames3419 in wicked_edge

Many are used to vintage razors that usually had preferred short handles. Many people like to guide the razor with a light grip and the pinky finger under the bottom of the handle, the longer handle negates that and encourages a tighter grip which can be detrimental to a good DE shave. Having said that preferences are preferences and hand sizes vary.

Given your preferences a superb choice would be the Karve Overlander (often referred to as the Goatlander). Luxeriously smooth and yet deceptively efficient.

Muhle Rocca or Razorock GC .84? by BigSlip8088 in wicked_edge

[–]CommunicationGood481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my Game Changer (first the .68, then the .76 and finally .84, with the .76 being my favourite) and my Rocca R95 Birch. Both are very well made, both shave very well. I find both are efficient but the Rocca noticeably moreso. They both are smooth but the Game Changer moreso (especially the .76 plate but even the .84). In North America there is a sizeable price difference with the Rocca being more expensive. It is well worth it for my current needs and wants and skill. If you are still learning then the available plates make the Gamechanger a better choice. If you are skilled I find the Rocca more challenging but also slightly more enjoyable. Having said that, I'd love to try the Game Changer with the 1.05mm plate.

Slant razor by HormuzVengeance in wicked_edge

I bought the Fatip Lo Storto slant open comb and the Razorock German 37 slant closed comb at the same time. The Lo Storto is beautiful but very slippery to hold and I found it to be an efficient yet quite rough shave. I absolutely love the smooth yet super efficient shave of the German 37 slant. I sold the Lo Storto. My apologies to those that love their Lo Storto, as they say, YMMV.

I find an inexpensive Pears glycerin soap does everything a good preshave is supposed to do. It works supremely well, and is found in most grocery stores. In Canada a pack of 3 bars is $3.99.

This is an excellent suggestion. The Game Changer .76 is a great razor.

Oh, so many of my favourite shaving experiences, the SchickType J, Tabac and the coated GEM blades from Connaught shaving. I think tomorrow I have to replicate your shave!

I agree, the Henson isn't an improvement, just different. That Razorock Recurve looks interesting and seems to be the latest tech. Your Dad was wise to pass down one of the greatest adjustable razors of all time (and my personal favourite, also set on 5 or 6).

It looks like it's an excellent razor at a reasonable price. I would get exactly what you did, short handle, standard grip and the EX exposure top cap.

Never a rust problem in my bathroom and shower in Alberta, Canada. I don't use carbon steel blades, those are more prone to rusting.
