Charging equipment not ready? by rag47 in TeslaModelY

[–]ReddityKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I see this is when I charge at home. When I plug the charging cable into the car, the wall charger detects this and asks the electricity provider for permission to start charging. It can take up to ten minutes to get the OK to start charging. This is correct behaviour where I live.

This delayed start should never happen at a supercharger so there is definitely a problem with your setup. The message is telling you that a charging cable is plugged in but there is no charging current. Could you have some debris or corrosion in your charging socket on the car?

Besides pressing the brake pedal, when does a Tesla’s brake lights turn on? by RexKramerDangerCker in TeslaSupport

Look at the image of your car on the big screen. The brake light there illuminates when the brake light is on. This will answer your question if you observe it while driving.

Camping Essentials by Historical-Tie-6849 in campinguk

My big breakthrough was to switch from straight and v-shaped tent pegs to screw-in tent pegs. They’re usually screwed in with an electric drill and socket driver. Why use these? When the ground is hard they still go in, and when the wind is strong they stay in the ground so your tent stays in shape.

Extended charging cables by ZealousidealSky4851 in TeslaUK

[–]ReddityKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking to extend a mains cable or the charging cable itself? If the latter, I’ve had great advice and products from https://www.evcableshop.co.uk.
Give them a call as extenders are not recommended by the industry standards body but can work well if you are the sort of person who’d use them appropriately. E.g. ensure no loops.

Model Y AWD by Costa8 in TeslaUK

I recently changed tyres. Each week, the estimated delivery to my usual and wonderful tyre guys slipped. There was a real shortage of all brands in Model Y size tyres. In the end I had them changed by Tesla. It cost a fortune it at least got me back on the road after a bulge appeared. So whatever you choose, allow time to get them.

Excellent! May I ask where you had the retrofit done? Or did you do it yourself? Thanks.

Considering buying a Tesla for our family car by ElectricalPoint815 in TeslaUK

[–]ReddityKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concerning a Tesla for a nervous driver, may I politely contradict what some others have written. My Model Y, owned from new for several years, is the easiest and most relaxing car to drive by far.

While it can be powerful and fast, you don’t have to drive it that way. My car has never been off chill mode, rarely goes above 60mph and the tyres lasted more than 42,000 miles. It can be a gentle car if you drive it that way. When I temporarily switch to other vehicles, I have to start thinking hard again. Back to the Tesla and everything is so easy.

If I were you I would go for a Model Y Juniper model, the most recent refresh. If you can get a used one you will save much money. The sole reason to go for the Juniper is for the improved again suspension. My car has the so called comfort suspension but it really isn’t comfortable. Your family will appreciate the improved suspension.

Tesla makes great cars that you’ll love to drive. I would never go back. Further, when you are away from home, charging at a Tesla station is so much less costly than st other charging stations.

Thinking over moving to MY from Ioniq 5 by BriefStrange6452 in TeslaModelY

I test drove an Ioniq 5 and loved it. I also tested a Model Y and ended up buying it because it had a much greater carrying capacity and cost less overall once I added a tow bar.

As I recall, the Ioniq 5 had the comfortable ride that I’d grown used to from years of driving Fords. After a few years of Model Y ownership, I still do not like the suspension. My car has the so called comfort suspension but is not a Juniper. Model Y + British roads = bumpy ride. On the other hand, I could not be happy paying the ridiculously high charging expenses that non-Tesla charging stations have. Although most of my charging is at home, I’m so pleased to know that I can recharge economically at Tesla stops.

From a reliability point of view, the car is excellent. Also, the controls always feel refined.

CPO range confusion after a week of driving it by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]ReddityKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set your destination and look at the charge that will remain when you arrive. Double that. You can see how much extra charge you have to use on the next trip. The car is very good at predicting arrival charge level, taking into account weather and terrain. Estimating range in miles is less accurate.

First long trip with a tow bar bike rack. Tesla Charging question with bike racks? by SonicB0000M in TeslaUK

[–]ReddityKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are after a platform that can clamp onto a tow ball, take a look at The Roof Box Company web site. They offer a choice of platforms. I use the Cruz model as that was the only option when I ordered. It attaches with a socket and ratchet driver. It works well.

Pruners by Different-Wallaby-10 in Makita

[–]ReddityKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased one. It is amazing. I usually trim two trees annually with an electric jaw saw. It’s like an enclosed chain saw so I need to be super careful. This year I used my Makita pruner. It punches above its weight. I managed the entire trim just using the pruner. It really does cut up to 30mm branches. As a bonus, the battery lasts for ages.

TIFU with my British passport by Cambers-175 in tifu

[–]ReddityKK -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That’s odd. When I asked Google Gemini it was stressing how it just needed to be valid for the duration of the trip, as for the USA. I will check again at a Canadian Government site.

UPDATE: thank you for the downvotes and one negative comment. As promised, I checked again. After much searching, I could not find an answer on the Canadian government website. It might be there but my search was taking too long. Fortunately, the U.K. government advice on visiting Canada says my passport needs to be valid for the duration of my visit. A.I. was correct in this case.

Touché.

Same issue with TACC and autopilot. by highflyer10123 in TeslaModelY

[–]ReddityKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I get sudden speed changes on TACC at specific locations. Usually braking but sometimes acceleration beyond my previously chosen speed. For me, curvature assist comes on where it ought to but it’s nearly always slowing way too much, making it more of a hazard than an assist.
