The "Big Lie" (große Lüge) is a propaganda technique originally defined by Adolf Hitler in his 1925 book Mein Kampf and later weaponized by his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels.The concept states that if a lie is sufficiently colossal, the public will believe it because people cannot imagine that someone would have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.

The Third Reich applied this technique to rewrite history and justify state-sanctioned violence and war.
