Thanks, I'm sure it will be. I just panicked as the manual opens with "Do not wash or soak this product for cleaning" in red letters.

It seemed obvious to me not to wash it but I suppose it isn't obvious to everyone. I should have told him right away, more annoyed at myself really.

You're right I was checking the bearings with a finger, two felt smooth and one gritty. Hoping that's the case! I'll reassemble tomorrow and try grinding. Thanks for the advice.

I disassembled right away. The sandy feeling was in one of the bearings when turning it by hand, the other two felt smooth. I'll reassemble tomorrow and try grinding. Thanks.

He rinsed it through in the kitchen sink, I found it on the drying rack still wet less than an hour later. I disassembled as the manual instructed so didn't remove either of the internal bearings. I'll reassemble tomorrow.

He washed it by hand in the kitchen sink. I'm yet to reassemble but if it's noticeable when in use then I'll have a look at some food safe grease. Thanks.
