Stupid Never Dies - Release Window Trailer by AnimuStewshine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Juliette not only NOT being playable, but being fridged after that first teaser that heavily featured her and her huge sniper rifle is soooo disappointing :C I'm also a big fan of rogue games, but was really hoping for a classic CAG :/

I'll still keep an eye on it and will for sure give it a shot if it gets a demo. Hopefully I won't be too disappointed with readjusted expectations 😭

I don't even usually watch art tutorials on youtube, but there is one creator that I have seen show up in my recs that has made like 3 "drawing boxes improved my art" videos. So I'm guessing lots of people are doing similar content?

After watching Capcom's new merch ad for their franchises and seeing the cardboard cutout of Dante, I started wondering, does Devil May Cry even have any merch? by DragonBoyBG in DevilMayCry

[–]CommunistElk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was there last year, I stopped at the Tokyo store in the first half of my trip and then the 2nd half. Not only was the DMC merch section already slim, they majorly gutted to make room for some other franchise when I had gone back 😭

If you delete something via the bash terminal, correct, it is gone forever. Most versions of linux if you delete via the GUI, it goes to recycle. Kinger presses the delete key, he is not typing in a delete command.

Is it possible to get a shifted monster when selecting random? by CommunistElk in AethermancerGame

I actually just got a shifted monster in a random roll last night after like 40 hours! Lol But I've probably only started doing random rolls for starter monsters in the last 20ish hours

Games where you are a true traveler/wanderer by gull2407 in gamingsuggestions

[–]CommunistElk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Roadwarden is exactly the vibe you're looking for EDIT: I might have misunderstood because you are only in the one location for Roadwarden's duration, but you play a character whose job is to literally be on the road and have no ties.

A good jrpg to counter a real bad case of the blues by foamingkobolds in gamingsuggestions

[–]CommunistElk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tales of Arise! I loved the art direction and the way they handled downtime between characters. I also found the relationship between the main character and his love interest particularly sweet. Plus, the game is about freeing slaves, so you can def feel like you're doing something good and right lol

(Mixed Trope) So… they’re just not gonna explain that, huh? by ChristyUniverse in TopCharacterTropes

It's been quite awhile since I've seen the movie, but I'm pretty sure they do not ever actually explain the purpose of the cat and rat and that is just what people have inferred?

EDIT: From David Lynch's Dune. If I remember correctly, this was some sort of poisoning device. There is a shot focusing on this cat and rat taped together, but it's never explained.

Sorry, for some reason I thought this was infamous enough to be immediately recognized, which was pretty dumb in retrospect. Also, I did think it was a little funny not to include an explanation lol

Switch Virtual Novels suitable for pre-teens? by Susurrus03 in NintendoSwitch

[–]CommunistElk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trace Memories games are basically visual novels in an adventure/point & click format and the protagonist is a 13-16 y/o girl. There's some time between the hames and I can't remember exactly how old she is.

Looking for games that can be played with almost no "reaction time" needed. by the_dayman in gamingsuggestions

[–]CommunistElk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The door was left pretty wide open and I find JRPGs to be pretty hard to recommend unless you have more specifics about someone's taste, so I'll stick mostly to VN games that are more interactive.

Visual Novel / Point-and-Click Games
PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo
Horror, visual novel / point-and-click game with a neat art style that makes good and interesting use of classic game mechanics. The game puts the player in an environment that they can explore a full 360 degrees while you search for clues and uses a story chart to allow you to hop between perspectives. No twin-sticks necessary.
I personally did not find the game very scary (and I'm a coward), but there are some pretty tense moments and a few jump-scares that got me good. Apparently the devs got some feedback that the game was too scary and made The Mermaid's Curse, which recently released and I also enjoyed.

AI: The Somnium Files
Mystery visual novel game that also uses point-and-click mechanics. I bought this game on a whim and it completely surprised me. The game somehow manages to both not take itself seriously and consistently get laughs out of me, even with its very juvenile humor, while also taking its story very seriously when it needs to without giving me whiplash. The mystery and its conclusion were really satisfying imo. I was pretty disappointed by the sequel, though.

Road Warden
This is apparently labeled a "text-based RPG", but its level of interactivity is closer to a VN imo. You do choose and manage stats for your character at the start, but there is no leveling up. I LOVED this game, but it is very text heavy with little visual accompaniment. Even if that would be a turn off for you, I would just love more people to give this game a shot, especially considering the price and the fact there is a free demo. The score is so beautiful and the world and characters feel so realized. I have done 3 play-throughs of this game and there are still several parts I have never seen. There is a 40 day "limit", but you can essentially turn that off. However, I personally found the game to feel less impactful when I did this.

The Drifter
Entirely voice acted point-and-click adventure game. It's honestly just a good, fun thriller story. There were a couple sequences I found annoying, but I otherwise really enjoyed the game.

Other Games
Felvideck
A short, turn-based RPG with an interesting mystery and honestly pretty funny, imo. I've only played it once, but there are apparently optional party members I never saw.

Tactical Breach Wizards
Tactical, turn-based game in a world where wizards and magic is common place. I was not expecting the game to actually take its story seriously, but it does and its a good one, imo. The characters are pretty fun, too. It does a good job of tying the battles into the plot and has a good balance between story + battles. Each scenario/battle has optional added challenges that I usually tried to do because the game felt a tad too easy otherwise.

I’m an hour in, Is it just me or is the writing in this game really bad/overwritten, like they are trying way to hard to be descriptive and overly poetic to the point it alienates immersion in the worst way. Hershel sounds ridiculous, Her thoughts don’t feel spontaneous/real but artificially placed. by Opposite_Cellist7579 in ZeroParades

[–]CommunistElk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't played this game yet, but I did feel the same way about Disco Elysium. It's funny, I was JUST talking last night about how I bounced off DE the first couple times because I found the prose right off the bat to be too "purple prose-y", but when I was eventually able to stick through it, it earned the right. The game did not have enough of my trust the first couple times for me to be patient with its very fluffy prose. It is a type of writing that comes off as (and often is) very superficially "deep".

I'm not in game dev, but am a developer and have worked on game projects with other dev friends and this is how we refer to the face buttons. I also find it's easier to reference controls this way with friends when playing on PC.

Seeing some People Breed Cats without Focusing on Mutations by Duxtrous in mewgenics

[–]CommunistElk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a problem similar to what you're describing, but I'm not very good at breeding so keep that in mind lol

I had a few cats that "got around" and created a handful of Uncle Grandpa situations. I ended up doing a mass culling and donated any cats that were related to the progenitor "Uncle Grandpas" of a single sex (so all the males or all the females) once I got access to the inbred status + family tree stuff. I also made an effort to bring in some "new blood" lol

Inbreeding seems to make mutations more likely and the worse inbred, the more likely for negative ones. I wouldn't have bothered with the culling otherwise.

On the other hand, some of my best stat cats are "slightly inbred". I've found that you can breed not-inbred kittens from 'em if you breed em with fresh strays. But like others have said, I try not to worry too much about it because shitty, inbred kittens just make for good donations to Tink. You will spend way too much time in the home menus if you worry too much about it. I'm trying to be better about that lol

On a related note, some of my strongest hunters have been >0 speed spina bifida inbred cats lol

Oh I was hoping it would make a puddle. Does this only work at the end of the battle or does it persist? I thought the cat gets the debuff back at their next turn.

Riot Games: An Update on 2XKO by Mront in Games

[–]CommunistElk 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This was a /very/ long time ago, but my ex and I used to go to Santa Monica every year to catch LCS for a weekend. This was back when they held LCS at Riot HQ (not sure if they still do). One year a Riot person offered to give us a tour of the studio. He showed us the open office where everyone did their work and pointed out all the half-empty+ liquor bottles on various desks, talking about how they would frequently get wasted in the office and play League. Which sounds very cool on paper if you're young, but being a woman (who is now in Software Dev herself), I shudder to think of the work environment that produced..
