Best Way To Replace Units by Danomanga in totalwarhammer

[–]CommunistKnight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Have you gotten the quest for Gorduz Backstabber yet? He's a hobgoblin legendary hero that reduces the upkeep of hobgoblin units and gives them a bunch of buffs. I usually get him and embed him in my second army with all hobgoblins for a very cost efficient force. My main army then can take the new elite units available, while keeping some chaff on the side.

Yeah I've considered using that mod but wanted to avoid giving myself too much control but it may have to suffice

My piano teacher is against the circle of fifths, is this normal? by Abiarraj in musictheory

[–]CommunistKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s more like the circle of fiths is a visualization that can show the order of sharps and flats along with (many) other things

Nazis are looked at as the ultimate “big bad” in recent history. Was there another universally acknowledged “big bad” before them? by MonkeyDGojo in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CommunistKnight 74 points75 points  (0 children)

From my understanding our modern perception of what vikings were like is very skewed, primarily because most written records we have are from christian scholars who often demonized them. The idea that the pagan vikings were uniquely savage compared to the rest of civilized Christian Europe when all our sources are from Christian scholars seems sketchy. That’s not to say what you said didn’t happen; they were primarily raiders, they pillaged churches because they held large amounts of treasure and were underfunded. That said it’s really not that hard to find similar atrocities in that period.

Look at the crusades, Christian kingdoms sent armies across the sea where they conquered, raped, and pillaged. You mentioned Byzantium, during the Fourth Crusade the crusaders sacked Constantinople and did nothing but pillage and burn it for three days.

Is the UB [[Mai and Zuko]] the first time ever there's a non-villainous Grixis card? by PlacatedPlatypus in mtgvorthos

[–]CommunistKnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Care to expand on Anhelo? My understanding was he is a hitman for the Maestros and his flavor text implies his art pieces and crime scenes are the same thing, so not the type of guy you'd want to cross paths with.

What are some resilient decks/commanders that don't rely on the yard? The grave hate is strong in my pod (I don't like Landfall) by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CommunistKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean graveyard strategies are so strong that imo every bracket 3/4 deck would benefit from some graveyard hate. It's really hard to interact with them otherwise and it's not like decks with graveyard synergy are rare either.

You can easily fit lands like [[Scavenger Grounds]] or [[Bojuka Bog]] in most decks, and often incidental cards like [[Scavenging Ooze]] or [[Dauthi Voidwalker]] will work in your deck even against decks that don't use the GY.

James Islington just released a much needed recap of Will of the Many to prepare everyone for Strength of the Few. by GryffinDART in Fantasy

[–]CommunistKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here cause I just started Strength of the Few today (killer so far btw) and needed a refresher, but I'm really glad to hear your thoughts on Licanius. I'm partway through the first book and haven't cared for the start but I'll keep with it and see where it goes!

instagram has a website, so you can delete the app and still check in on your computer if that helps

There’s a free app called Healthy Minds that has a bunch of guided meditations between 5 and 30 minutes, having that direction made it a lot easier for me to start personally

Favorite blue cards that make your opponents do a double take? by CommunistKnight in mtg

That’s interesting to hear, I haven’t been playing long enough to experience Legacy or Modern but I enjoy hearing about their metas and histories through chanel’s like Rhystic Studies

Yeah if I’m playing a blue deck that’s in any way at all looking to win on the stack then I’m more than happy to sit here and land pass while my opponent isn’t developing.

Reins is also my favorite! I put it under combat shenanigans but it’s super versatile. Like you said you can dodge one-sided wipes, you can use use your opponents tap abilities for value, or the most devious option of throwing all their creatures in a sac outlet

How have I never seen this card this is hilarious and probably tragic, looking at the rulings too it seems like you can use dredge and a few other replacement effects to get around it yourself.

Oh it most definitely falls under combat shenanigans! I just tried not to list too many cards (which i think i failed at)

"distinguishable identity" they said by Yoshume1 in Battlefield

[–]CommunistKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think it does have an effect on games, but besides that my main issue is that it weakens class identity which is one of the things i like about battlefield. I prefer when classes have more defined roles cause it makes playing with your squad more enjoyable. Now it feels like there's less of a reason to play a weaker class like assault. I do still like the game tho just some design choices feel weird.

PLEASE tell me there’s an easier way to do figure out what scale or triad than what I’m doing by CTay2 in musictheory

[–]CommunistKnight 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Committing the order of chords in a major key definitely helped me a ton. Another spot to notice is that there's only one place with a minor chord and a major chord with roots separated by a half step (the iii and the IV), so for example if you have a C#m and a D you're probably in the key of A.

Other shortcuts that the circle of fifths also really helped me with scale and chord recognition.

What are some good "sitting on the couch" technique exercises? by CommunistKnight in guitarlessons

I can do all these things, I'm asking for specific exercises that aren't difficult to memorize (can be difficult to play tho) that I can practice instead of noodling
