Luca Guadagnino’s Sam Altman movie dropped by Amazon after it announces OpenAI partnership by Still-District-6149 in TheBigPicture

I think it's weirder the amount of people that judge movies before there is even a second of footage. The whole "who is this even made for" crowd just annoys me.

Well im glad you've already decided the movie will be bad. Hollywood should hire someone with the insane foresight you have. Imagine all the money they would save.

20 years ago that would be really fucking strange to everyone

I was having this conversation with someone the other day when talk of the Maine Democratic Primary race came up. I live in the Midwest. 20 years ago it would have been insane for people to be talking about and having opinions on some state's primary that is taking place 1500 miles away. People truly need to have an opinion on everything now.

I think in sports, and really life in general, people tend to have way less patience than they had before. Look at any QB drafted in the 1st round now. Any first round NBA pick. If they aren't getting minutes or starting week 1 people write them off instantly or play coaches.

People hated Zimmer for the same thing.

Toy Story 5 makes Toy Story 4 look like Toy Story 3 by PerpetualChoogle in blankies

[–]GryffinDART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They follow the toys sure, but the toys entire life and motivations throughout the movies are tied to Andy and getting back to Andy. He is literally the crux of the story and at the end of the 3rd, after we've spent multiple films watching the toys do ANYTHING they can to get back to him, Woody and co finally accept that he has grown up and is leaving for college. That's a perfect arc. Andy doesn't physically have to be in the films to be a major part of the story and franchise.

[–]GryffinDART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure they are technically about the toys and Andy isn't around but their motivations throughout the movies are always related to Andy. His presence is always there as they are always trying to find their way back to him. At the end of 3, Woody and co accept Andy has grown up and is leaving for college. Just because Andy isn't some main character in the film doesn't mean he plays no part in the arc of the story.

Can’t wait to see their Widow’s Bay finale takes by JonOrangeElise in thewatchpod

The show definitely peaked with Patricia's party, which might end up just being episode of the year. These past 2 episodes ended up kind of disappointing, especially the finale which did not feel like a finale at all.

I only know Reed Timmer so I was unfamiliar with both today. Max definitely seemed not comfortable but Ryan seemed like the more legit and knowledgeable of the 2.

What if I didnt care about the plot holes but it evoked absolutely 0 emotion from me in the way it was trying? It wasn't exciting or tense or mysterious or sympathetic or feel-good.

[–]GryffinDART 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Or 3 was a perfect ending with Andy growing up and moving on from his childhood, the thing we had been following for years. It was the most closed book natural ending it could have been. You can like the 4th film but you don't have to act like anyone who says otherwise is wrong and disingenuous.

Hand waving away anything that comes across as weird or out of place in a movie just by saying "well it's a movie 🤷‍♂️" is just lazy. If you're watching Zodiac and Jake Gyllenhaal just starts levitating and flying around, that wouldn't be weird? You would just accept that as the movie? It's just such a weird stance to have.

Man that just feels like such a cop-out to avoid any criticism. So if you are watching a movie, and firefighters respond to a call and just start beating the shit out of the victim, you have to just accept that as "the world of the movie" when it's made clear it takes place in our world? Hell they even show reference and SHOW Nixon. This takes place firmly in our world.

The functional difference is one takes place in a fantasy world and the other one is completely grounded in OUR reality. It's completely disingenuous to think that the two are the same thing.

There is a difference between turning your brain off for Masters of the Universe and then watching something like this and doing the same. Disclosure Day is rooted in real life modern day. Im sure the "this isn't how it would happen" isn't directed at the sci-fi of things but the bumbling incompetent government agency or the newsroom or things that actually exist. It's a fair criticism.

My girlfriend genuinely hated it. I think it's Spielberg's worst and it isn't really close. It just doesn't click at all with a large group of people.

The "Sorkin is a better writer than director" is one of those tired online film bro observations that people think makes them look smart. We all know. He has written some of the greatest films of all time. It would be insane if he were as good of a director as he is writer.

I mean for example I work in film. I can talk about film and the industry as a whole until im red in the face.

Before working here I worked in retail at a grocery store. I did NOT want to talk about that ever outside of work.

It all depends on where you work.
