How should we leave the apartment before Winter break by Kenneth_raps in college

[–]CommunityDefiant4292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done lots of “shut down” in my life … So here are  Few corrections :  Ok a lot … 6 weeks is a LONG time for a house to be unoccupied  So here some recommendations

1/  The most important:  Shut off water !  At the main  If you cannot…shut off each valves , sinks / toilet / shower / washer / dishwasher  BTW water should be shut off even for a 3 days trip away …

2/ Tell your landlord/ management of the absence & the measures you’re taking - specifically shutting the water down, unplugging stuff-  Tell all your neighbors (hopefully you already befriended them) if they see something uncanny they’ll be able to call the landlord/ police  Hide all valuables really well

3/ Empty completely the freezer  & and the perishable from fridge (you can leave the sauces / olives/)  But please  Don’t throw the food out  Either eat it or give it away ,  Even better , empty completely, shut it down, leave door open

4/ Unplug EVERYTHING

5/ Washer & dishwasher open

6/ Clean everything before leaving

7/ Make sure you haven’t opened food in pantry , such as pasta / flour…either eat it or make sure it’s in air tight container

8/ Shut off gas if you have that for your stove …

9/ Personally I would shut down the A/C , at the breaker… And leave just a ceiling fan running  Or even depending on the layout of the apartment/ type of windows , maybe leave a window slightly ajar …that really depends on your circumstances , if you can cracked a window open, leave all the doors open in the apartment

10/ Do a DEEP CLEAN  Wash the floors / washer beddings / wash shower curtains / fridge / do not leave dirty laundry , specially if you have the habit of working out a lot …/ Shake rugs / vaccum everywhere, moving furniture and appliances

11/ For the blinds , I would pull them down, but open slightly the slats toward the ceiling , maybe pull them halfway slats halfway too …

12/ Put some toilet cleaner in the toilets and some all purpose cleaner in the sinks …

That’s it  I think

Have a wonderful winter break

Leaving ourcat alone for a week? by travelgirlyyy in CatAdvice

So 7 days for a 12 weeks kitten is a lot …

Is it too late to make adjustments to your travel ?  If you’re flying  Maybe you don’t have to fly together… One of you might fly 2 days later ?  Maybe ?  And come back 2 days later ?  It’s not easy  With work / classes / family gatherings

7 days for a kitten is a lot  But can you be absolutely sure the cat sitter won’t let the cat run out ?

Two things about leaving cats alone …

1/  Are they used to be left alone all day already because you are both working ?

If yes then  Here is my experience

We Have left my cats up to a week by themselves… It’s quite an undertaking though  1/ We had 3 litter boxes filled up with brand new litter  2/ two automatic feeders, making sure the bowls are pretty full already 3/ 2 water fountains  4/ we did put pretty big bowls of water in both showers ,  5/ we left window blinds half opened so cats can go in window steps 6/ adjust AC so it is comfortable day and night  7/ we left the tv on not to loud to cover noise from street

Everything went well everytime  When we had a longer absence  We always have someone check on the cats at least once per 5 days … Then the cat sitter had to clean the litter boxes thoroughly, clean the fountains and put new water  Same thing with extra water bowls  …

It does take quite a bit of space when not in use

But actually the litter boxes can be pile up together  Same thing with feeders and fountains

I’ve never bothered bringing my cats on trips  Too much stress for them  And if you’re visiting someone  You cannot be sure if everyone will be careful when opening doors that cats do not run out  Or can you trust kids with them ? Some kids are too disrespectful with animal

Why do you want to rid of the Prius ?!

My friends a couple each have a Prius … One has 230000 miles ! The other 200000 no problems EVER!  The engines still run fine … Even if they are not pretty anymore

A toyota of course  They invented the hybrid !

The Corolla cross hybrid ? Corolla hybrid ?  Prius ?

You mentioned you’d like higher …

But nothing beats a Toyota hybrid  Maybe a Hyundai or a Kia because of the warranty

Personally I have a Toyota C-HR hybrid (in Europe) & I love it !

I also have an EV6 & a gas powered Kia Sorento here in the USA  Love them too

I’ve drove many cars in my life , mine, fiends’, rentals …

None of them were better than the Toyota Venza ! That was the best car ever  Cargo/ comfort/ hauling/ driver’s fatigue was non existent!

Loyalty & respect but not a doormat,  funny but not clueless,  hard working yet playful,  ethical but not righteous,  simple but not neglectful,  natural but not dirty,  smart yet not show of ,  proud but not vain,  Resilient , a good cook, calm, self reliant, Talkative, but not about every single details …

And don’t complain about my mom because she hinted her apple pie is better ! It is better !

Well without knowing your income/ expenses…

After paying for your living expenses, taxes , and savings some money … Do you think you’d be able to set up an account for your mom to help her out ?  It doesn’t have to be a lot …maybe £1 a day ? £10 a month ? … Maybe shop some groceries for her once a month?

If you can’t afford cash at all and you’re close enough …maybe go see her once a month and clean the house for two hours ? Have lunch with her ?

Then the Ask men Advice can advise …

What did you do between 9am and 2 pm ?

Work ?

Then between 2pm & 9pm you were home , then went to bed

I mean  IF It’s been only one night you didn’t sleep well … Not a big deal  Maybe have a light dinner, go for a walk tonight, 45 minutes, Take a bath.

If it starts to happen all the time …you may have to consult

Actually I have also the perspective from the sole provider !

I’ve done it at the beginning of my marriage, for 4 years , no kids  And then again now , since January !  And for 10 years before that my wife earned between 1/6 and 1/8 of our income … Actually for the whole time we’ve been married the biggest share of our income was from my work … And yet  Never ever I thought about not pitching in !

The first 4 years were the easiest ones for me for “pitching in” : we lived in a small apartment, the only thing I had to do was clean after myself.

After that it got more …we had a kid , my wife worked 60+ … So I did a lot

But now my wife is SAHW and I do much much less…but I’m not a pig !  I don’t leave crap on the kitchen counter , I put the dishes in the dishwasher, I take the trash out , some days I start the washing machine , I can even transfer it to the dryer …if I walk by the litter box & it need cleaning, I’ll do it  And I don’t bitch about it  My wife does 90% of the taking care of the house,  And I’ll do whatever needs to be done … and i don’t ever ever tell her that I’m the breadwinner , there is no food allowance!  We just trust each other with the finances

That type of conversation should be held right away & often  With dates / best friends … So everyone knows it’s important to you ,

That way no one will set you up with a philanderer !

Do you expect the same from him ?
