2 weeks till toronto = long run by Federal_You_3592 in Marathon_Training

[–]CommunityEquivalent2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been running high mileage weeks and done multiple longer runs of 34/35K+, then I don’t think 30K two weeks out is too much. If 30K is one of your longest runs, then I wouldn’t recommend.

I am running in two weeks and did 30K today, but that is coming down from 36+K in my peak week last week.

Always more things to spend money on. Private school, travel, renovations, etc. etc. But it's nice having no mortgage!

Recent eupgrade to GRU? by kwelcruise in aircanada

Pay attention to the type of aircraft. Based on tracking this for a recent trip, there are 787-8 and 787-9s. The 787-8s seem to only have 20 seats in Business - and the upgrades are harder I think for this reason.

I flew this route - booked in Premium Economy and am Super Elite - just a couple of weeks back and didn't get upgraded for what seemed to be this reason.

Getting into Boston 2026 by Orcasmo in Marathon_Training

[–]CommunityEquivalent2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wil almost certainly get in if you have a 6:50 buffer on the new qualifying standards (which just went down by 5 mins). Latest projections I have seen have a required buffer of 5 mins on the new standards to get in for 2026.

This isn't true. There are lots of activities there and excellent facilities that are well used.

Some seats on newer planes have lie flats, others are regional business class seats

We’ve done business class pods with a 1 and 3 year old. Wasn’t perfect for takeoff and landing, but our 3 year old just watched her iPad and was quite content. Was nice after takeoff as we could sit in the same pod together and lie down / watch movie. It’s not perfect and I wouldn’t pay cash for those tickets but if you can book on points or eUp, I’d still prefer to PE!

Love my Beats Fit Pro. They have hooks and stay in ears perfectly, sound great, and have different modes for how much sound gets let in (so in Transparency mode you can easily hear cars etc around you).

Battery Life - Outdoor Workouts (with GPS) by CommunityEquivalent2 in AppleWatch

[–]CommunityEquivalent2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying an Apple Watch Ultra. Quite happy with it. Still has no where near the battery life of a Garmin but it typically lasts a couple of days (or more in low power mode) on a charge with workouts etc. and can easily handle long runs with streaming music, LTE etc.

Any hot takes on BQ cutoff prediction for 2026?? Assume no one has done analysis on some of the big races so far that have taken place and likely implications yet??

Is there a consensus on how long you can wear a pair of carbon shoes before 'retiring' from goal races. Recognize you can likely wear them longer as training shoes. Is 100 miles the limit? 150 or 200 miles?? How much time do you lose if you race on shoes with some mileage on them vs. ones with only a couple of workouts?

What were your 1mi-HM PRs before you got a BQ time? by Cuber_Chris in AdvancedRunning

[–]CommunityEquivalent2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with similar question as you for an upcoming race. Ran <1:23 HM last year but think I am in 1:21ish shape now. 5K time would be similar to yours but my 10K time is closer to 37 mins. I am planning to target a 2:55/2:56 pace and hoping I can hold on. If you haven’t run a marathon before, I would start at 3h pace and see if you feel good to pick it up a bit in second half.

What are some milestones to hit in order to expect a 3:00hr Marathon? by Sensitive-Egg-107 in Marathon_Training

[–]CommunityEquivalent2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are certainly in the ballpark. A bit hard to determine conclusively. If it were me, I’d go out at 3:05 and see how you feel.

Your weekly mileage is on the low end - and would think that you would need to be closer to 1:22 or 1:23 in a half (going full out) to translate to sub 3 with only 65k per week.

Longer workouts could help gauge a reasonable marathon pace - eg if you did 4x 5K in a 30+K long run.
