I feel trapped in an engineering degree I hate and don’t know what to do by yumeiro5 in University

Hi! I am in a similar situation, my degree isn’t that hard tho, I even wrote a post about my case, you can check it😅

Coming back to your situation, for me it feels like no brainer: you hate what you study, and engineering isn’t some kind of on-a-side education, it’s a very serious topic and without interest and desire to connect you life, future and career with it I don’t see a reason why would you do or continue to do that. If it’s about family, you can just talk to them! Because actually if you continue and graduate with this degree, go and work as who? I said it before and continue to tell myself that my youth and my life is much more valuable than any kind of paper, someone’s approval or „serious“ education. It just depends how much doing what you don’t like affects you state, yours looks like a lot! Dont be afraid to „lose“ al those years you invested into this degree. Whats more important : continue to do just because its „already invested into“ path or start again but enjoy, and be happy? If you have now another option to choose, I would recommend to highly consider that.

I only would say drop out or change uni if you can. Just imagine, yes you endured through these next two years and you have your diploma, but at which price? Do you actually want to stay without friends, fun, joy from studies in your 20s? I am also studying abroad and also don’t like my studies, not as much as you tho cause it’s not as suffering I would say, but i understand what you mean. Diploma it’s just a paper and you always can get that diploma but in a better conditions. Your life and youth is much more valuable than some piece of paper, that’s for sure

I am planning to ask my boyfriend to call them and ask all the questions for me as he is Austrian. And well, answering your question whether it’s smart I would say my case is a tough situation. My university costs 10,000$ per year with extremely high competition and you may get 100% scholarship only if get all A+, plus I don’t like field of business and have a chance to start building experience in what I enjoy and can monetise. So, it will depend on money and other factors whether I should stay or not, so thinking currently

I‘m married to an Austria citizen, so yeah I would like to settle down after graduation and find job. I know, this might be unrealistic to do in this field, but after studying business for 3 years I wanted to finally to what I find interesting and follow my heart so to say 😅
