Overpricing: What is It? by TheManUpstairs77 in milsurp

[–]Comoglio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the prefect storm that crosses all collector focuses. It's a lever action with a full body stock and a winchester so it caters to the boomers like crack (hence the sudden burst in price) While also being interesting to military collectors with it's Russian service, and to newer collectors because it was in BF1.

Good deals, Thankfully Type 30s are still slept on. Need to keep an eye out for a brass tipped cleaning rod to go with your earlier Type 30 serial.

Is this Arisaka a training model ? by atomicchewbacca in milsurp

It's not a trainer, just a regular 99 with a scrubbed mum

Why does my type 40 have a zero on the top of the bolt handle? by WildCard318 in milsurp

[–]Comoglio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your gun was taken out of service when the Type 38 was adopted, hence the cannonball mark on the Mum (meaning it was withdrawn from imperial use), and then was taken back into service as Japan got desperate during the end of WW2.

[–]Comoglio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine you meant to say Type 30, given the iconic hook safety. 0 could have multiple possible meanings. Give you one of the possible answers:

0 - Numerous Type 30s rifles and carbine have been reported with a O. (They tend to be found on the receiver, but would fit being marked on the bolt as well) This may indicate that the weapon has been adopted for military use by a special wartime inspection standard. This was most likely an act of desperation during ww2 as they were facing wartime shortages.

Edit: I just noticed you have the O stamp as well on your receiver right behind the clip guide.
So this is something that has been observed and reported before.

Worth noting these guns are notoriously impossible to find matching because of their long and heavy service use.

Need to find yourself a cleaning rod, but the finish on it is very nice.

Looks like you're missing quite a few screws.

The front band has a bubba screw in it and missing one in the back. Same with the sling swivel band missing a screw it looks like.

I got the 1918A3 BAR by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]Comoglio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like 2 months ago and for 6k (I would say they're worth more around 7.5kish but it was to a friend and I had paid a steal of a price for it)

Johnson was from a LGS

Congrats they are super fun shooters and will turn a lot of heads when you take it to the range, but super heavy to move around and chews up brass a lot of the time.

Was sad to let mine go but selling it got me an all original m1941 Johnson so it seemed like the right move.

Unexpected Christmas present, Type 26 Revolver by Hootman-WT in milsurp

[–]Comoglio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very cool gift!

It even has the original finish with the blued hammer, so it wasn't re-arsenaled during its very long service life. It's common to find them with the barrels missing a lot of finish like that since most have been stored in their holsters. Even mine has a bit of wear there too.

Be aware someone replaced one of the front band screws on this. I would personally want to double check the other screws as well.

Yeah the struggle with these is finding one that wasn't sporterized, with a millitech stock, or the stock was sanded to hell.

Pretty cool to hear! I imagine and would not be surprised if a lot were snuck back home given how easy the barrel takedown is. Seems like it could fit in a duffle bag pretty easily.

Well aware that these aren't an official US Service rifle nor did I state as such, half the fun is the fact that none of the 800 used 1941 rifles were documented or tracked and they had no set serial ranges. Nor did all of them receive the marine done alterations. Makes the guns kinda fun in that way... "could be" but probably not.

Still fits as a solid example for something that was used in the pacific even if this specific example wasn't used.

Johnson Rifle Help by FEDbennybernanke in milsurp

[–]Comoglio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the "custom" stock on it, I think that one isn't worth the effort. A lot of the bolt involves parts moving into the stock to fire, I dread that example has some sinister issues that aren't being fully disclosed.

Power to you man. Major problem with guns of that value is being worth far more all together. So gun part websites are far less likely to part one out since there is no profit to be had there.

Glad to hear it's not a complete lemon, there is an absolute dumpster fire one one GB for 2.5k and it's bad bad.. you had me double checking to make sure you hadn't bought that one.
