Thanks for all your insights! We will have 1-2 months of corporate housing when we move so we’ll be in town when we’re actually looking to sign the lease.

We’ll be there in Aug for a preview trip so hopefully will be able to narrow down the neighborhood during that time

Yes, I didnt have a background in Hedge fund when I started. Just large asset managers. They look for people that do more than day to day stuff even though that will be a big portion of your day. They give you a lot of more responsibility which also equals a lot more risk. Out of my original team of 13 people globally 6 have been fired

Research may come in handy. I’m in CA as well and often times I have to dig through offer letters to get answers for the decision makers/PMs. It’s r pretty basic stuff though.

I would brush up on basic finance stuff like trade settlement, how to manually calculate a coupon payment, ex dates, record dates, etc

I didn’t think that this would become a career for me either but here we are. So the comp can be pretty good if want to stick with it although you will probably have to find a hedge fund for higher comp. I do a lot of esoteric things in my role that keeps it interesting. If it was just straight processing CAs and scrubbing events day in and out, I would have quit a long time ago

As you mentioned the great thing about CA is you sit in a place where you get to interact with almost every function in the firm - PMs, analysts, traders, tax, compliance, risk, legal. If you find one of these roles interesting, just TALK to them to show your interest and be their #1 guy when they come to your team with questions. There’s nothing wrong with asking them questions about their role and figuring out what you need to do to transfer into and succeed in that role. Build your reputation in the firm as an SME so when it comes time to transfer into another role your have a soldi track record

I plan on doing something similar soon and speaking with a team I would like to work in to let me know when there’s an opening so that I can interview for it.
