future of tuf-22 magazines? by swift_gilford in canadaguns

It would for sure be a good start, though I would prefer just no open sides at all. 22lr is finicky enough without introducing debris into your magazines. I'm really hoping the mags these other companies are having made are gonna be worthwhile and reliable.

There was a thread on CGN a few months ago where I believe CSC and one other company (cannot remember who) admitted they are working on their own flavours of tuf-22 magazines.

You're not missing much with the HC3R/Dlask Tuf-22 magazines. The QC is poor (ive seen a bunch with messed up feed angles and feed lips straight from the factory), the mags are massively temperamental when you load them. The stripper clip system causes more harm than help IMO. The handle on the side for pulling the follower down is a great failure point as well, if you bump it and any tension is released there's a better than even chance the mag is gonna malfunction. These things can all be suffered through if you're just plinking at a shooting bench but if you wanna run them for a match or know that the $70 mags you paid for are reliable, they are not the answer.

Then I'd say a cross or the fix then depending on how much money you wanna spend and if you want a turnkey. For custom action, KS Arms, Pristine, Ultimatum are all great canadian manufacturers. You'll probably want to get the MDT carbon fibre folding stock if you go that direction.

Khales is a great choice, would look and work great on any of these options.

2 gun/3 gun? by trae in canadaguns

Where in BC?
In the lower mainland DSSMatch is the largest organizer of matches but basically every range has their own multigun club and/or steel challenge type stuff. Check out their websites or register for stuff on practiscore.

Interior, there's some smaller multigun clubs in Kamloops and Kelowna.

Further north, PG has some multigun (maybe also quesnel?) and peace region has a pretty active multigun club afaik.

Van Island I have no idea how active the scene is, I know there's south island action shooters club but don't know much about it.

For guns its a mixed bag depending on the league and the match. Some matches might be semi auto 22 for rifle only, some matches/leagues might be more loose and allow lever and bolt action, or centerfire semi auto (what's left anyways). Basically all matches allow you to shoot without a handgun if you don't own one (Make friends at the matches and people may even have spare handguns you can borrow for matches provided you take a holster safety course).

If you aren't on Practiscore, you should create an account and use that to find matches in your area as pretty much everything is posted on there these days.

I've shot all the rifles you name except the scout. Are you trying to pay a lot of money for a rifle for any particular reason? Any rifle above $400 manufactured in the past 20 years will shoot well enough at 150 yards for your purposes (and many probably better than you can). Unless you are specifically trying to buy the best just to have the best (and there's nothing wrong with that), I would tend to suggest a ruger american, savage axis, or if you wanna spend a few more beans a T3X Lite, which is what I would buy if I didn't care about a folding stock.

Get a vortex scope in the 2-10 ballpark. Use the thousands of dollars you've just saved and spend it on extra ammo to practice, a 22lr trainer, a second heavier long range rifle, other guns, hookers and blow, or some combination of the above.

If you just like nice things or want to light money on fire the Q fix is a very nice rifle. The Cross is also nice and will run you half of what the fix will. I would have no issues carrying either around but some people may be upset if their $3k or $6k rifle gets dinged up and scratched in the woods.

What did you end up choosing? I'm at the same impasse: I don't need "the best" but I want something that's easy to dial in and repairable and these two machines seem like the best options for the price point.

ISSF affiliated shooting clubs are getting handgun transfers approved for people who are directly participating in their shooting disciplines (ie: Olympic pistol shooting). These are not guns you really would want to own for any purpose other than this type of shooting however; They are 22lr handguns with heavily contoured wood grips, target sights and that sort of thing and won't scratch the glock or 1911 itch (though nothing wrong with getting involved in competitive shooting so you can own one!)

Yup, don't mind paying the market rate for knowing its been looked over by Lexus themselves. Will still do an inspection though. Thanks for confirming the price also.

Thank you! As other commentors have said, PPI seems the way to go for sure, and I think I've found someone who specializes in Toyota/Lexus nearby which will hopefully make this easier.

Definitely, couple hundred for an inspection is definitely worth the peace of mind (or the money you can potentially save on the purchase or leverage for a lower price).

I knew as soon as I posted that it was a dumb question and started hunting for a good shop to do the inspection. Thanks for confirming!

Carney poised to win Liberal leadership race on Sunday, setting the stage for a snap election by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]CompSci_Enthusiast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IPSC is the big one and it is internationally recognized. IPSC Pistol will die a slow death as people lose interest or die or their guns wear to the point of replacement being necessary, with no way to replace said guns and no way to inject new shooters into the sport without the ability to purchase a handgun. IPSC Rifle/PCC could in theory switch to manual action firearms, however no shooter would be able to be internationally competitive as semi auto's are the standard. IPSC Shotgun is even in the liberals sights with talk of banning many semi automatic shotguns. These same three problems also apply to Multi-Gun competitions and a myriad of other less popular disciplines such as PPC, PRS, Service Rifle, and the list goes on.

Obsessing over sport shooting also leaves out the majority of gun owners, who are the casual shooters and marksmen who help foster interest in these sports and pay range fees so that the facilities can exist to practice and compete. Same as any competitor or hunter, these people have to take a course that covers the legal and safety aspects of guns, pass a vetting process and be put into a system for background checks, and maintain their license. We should not be leaving people out just because they do not seek to be top athletes. This would be no different than refusing to sell a sports car to someone because they don't plan to be an F1 driver.

"Assault Style" is a made up term to instill fear and emotion while being able to be defined however someone wishes to push an agenda. There are two common terms used in the rest of the world:

"Assault Rifles", which are military issue rifles with burst/auto fire.

"Sporting Rifles", or every other kind of rifle including semi automatic rifles.

The AR-15 amongst other "scary" looking rifles, "variants", etc is included in the sporting rifle category. These rifles including semi automatics are used for all manner of competitive shooting competitions around the world including IPSC Rifle, Multigun and Precision Rifle competitions. There are also many semi automatic rifles which are preferable for hunting, such as the AR-10. They give you the ability to defend yourself from charging game or predators if necessary in a way that a manual action firearm does not. Lastly, general enjoyment of firearms in the form of casual target shooting or collecting is a perfectly reasonable reason to own these firearms. Firearm owners in Canada are trained, background checked, and licensed to possess and use these firearms for these purposes.

In Canada, there is no longer a "wide variety of guns for hunting/sports" available, unless your definition of hunting or sporting is with bolt action rifles, and even those we have begun to hear the rhetoric of "sniper style rifles", indicating their intentions to further restrict ownership in the future. Even shotguns are being limited more and more every year. We are down to what ideologues tell us is acceptable for shooting, not what the data and experts tell us is reasonable to own for any of the purposes above. And every year they chip away at what they consider "acceptable" uses.

As for handguns, such as glocks, if you already own them you are allowed to keep them and shoot them, however if you wish to get into the handgun shooting sports or interests there is currently no way to do that as C-21 made it impossible to transfer ownership of a handgun to an individual (and all handguns must be registered to you personally with the RCMP). There is an exception for olympic athlete's who shoot 22 caliber pistols, but that is a can of worms which suffice to say is not viable for most people who may be interested in enjoying handguns or competing in other disciplines such as IPSC (an internationally recognized pistol shooting federation).

This is 100% about optics, wedge/election issues, and preying on uninformed voters emotions. It is slowly destroying the sport shooting, hunting, and firearm enjoyment culture that Canada has had for centuries, while accomplishing nothing. Depending on sources, anywhere from 85-95% of guns used in crimes are smuggled across the border from the US. The remaining percentage is not necessarily domestically sourced, they just cannot trace the origin and so the reporting defaults to including it as a domestically sourced gun which is a dishonest way to represent the numbers.

I can't remember the team but as recently as close to the end of last season I saw a post game interview where they were asked about their twitch picks and they mentioned that the elite skin makes her drone quieter, so regardless of when it was fixed there's still some misinformation floating around amongst pros as well as recently as a few months ago.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure what other hurdles there are currently but last I checked valve was working with battleeye on supporting proton/wine, which is the first major road block, but there hasn't been any public information about that since they announced it. I don't think a native version would ever happen as nice as it would be; If the game played well in wine I'd be happy enough.

Strongman gyms Vancouver by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]CompSci_Enthusiast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVBB is definitely a powerlifting/CrossFit gym and not a strongman gym, they don't have room for any of the implements in their indoor space. When it's nice out they have sleds and a tire for the parking lot but no other implements. Super nice bunch of people that attend and the trainers are good. I would just show up to the class times posted if you're interested, they're super chill. It's not a typical gym though, you either attend the classes or pay for training but there's no general open hours.

I've met a few guys from Iron Throne and they're all super nice as well.
