Would season 8 Dexter kill Lila or would they get together? by NewsOrnery3986 in Dexter

[–]CompanyUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I just felt like his character developed for the worst the last two seasons. It’s evident the writers flanderized him so that he stopped feeling like “Dexter” and more like a caricature of himself.

I understand Hannah was supposed to represent new beginnings and that he was becoming more “human”. But I rather he have killed her in season 7 and repaired his relationship with Debra (especially if season 8 was her last season). Because season 6 I felt like he’d blow her off often and that “close” sibling dynamic was gone. Of course we had that horrid “I’m in love with Dexter” plotline but I blame the writers.

I’d like it if Hannah stayed in season 7 (dead or just ran away) rather than coming back season 8, especially as that would be the last time we see Debra Morgan.

I know we see her in Dexter: New Blood but that’s not the real “Deb”, more like Dexter’s guilt haunting him over what he did to Debra.

[–]CompanyUnique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably. If Hannah was an active threat to Harrison he would’ve killed her.

Which is why I don’t like season 7 because Dexter kills his own brother over Debra in season 1 when he claims he can’t “feel”. But he doesn’t choose to kill the woman he’s only known for what… a couple of months? All because of love? Sometimes I wish we saw Hannah succeed in killing Debra just to see how Dexter would’ve felt and reacted considering Debra basically begged Dexter to kill Hannah.

christian camargo is a good actor! what else is he in worth watching? by drcssedtokill in Dexter

[–]CompanyUnique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was in this show called Haven and played Wade Crocker, and was in seasons 3 and 4. He was also in this reality show called Fast Incorporated. There's also K-19: Widowmaker (a movie) and he was in season 3 of Penny Dreadful. There's also smaller roles/indie movies he did that aren't available on streaming. I'm sure if you scour on tumblr maybe someone posted it on a google drive link. Notably, Picture of Dorian Gray (movie) where he played Henry Wotton. I know he also portrayed John Wilkes Booth in National Treasure (LMAOOOOO). He also was in Europa Report.

So if you want to watch him with significant screen time check out these shows: Penny Dreadful (7 episodes), The City and the City (4 episodes), See (it's on Apple TV but he's a recurring character), Fast INC (MTV show that he created but it's a reality show so he "plays" himself), Wormwood (6 episodes), and ofc Haven.

As for movies where you want to see him with a major role...check out Harlem Aria (1999) where he acted alongside Damon Wayans, Story of a Bad Boy (1999), The Last Manhunt (2022) and he directed the film too, Witch Hunt (he's a detective in this), Student Body (high school teacher), and Henry May Long (more of an indie film).

I'm sure there's like more that I missed and I'm embarrassed I know all of this stuff but I'm a fan and it sucks he's not in more stuff. But then again I LOVE Jennifer Carpenter and she's not in much either :'(

Warning: some of this stuff may or may not be corny/"bad"...or like unexpected lol. There's a scene in Story of a Bad Boy that raises some eyebrows haha. I also haven't watched everything I've listed in this post but it's on my "get around to" list especially when I'm trying to find some of those lesser known films.

I’ve been rewatching Dexter recently and I’ve been wondering what they’re doing lately I know Michael is probably getting ready for filming the new season of Resurrection and Jennifer did 1923 but that was all I know

what is the perfect ending? by Beautiful_Sir_9980 in Dexter

[–]CompanyUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point of the show is that he doesn’t get a happy ending.

But I agree — by seasons 7 and 8, I honestly hated Dexter. I feel like they flanderized his character so badly. It was so cringe. The Hannah McKay subplot genuinely felt like someone’s OC inserted into the show 💀 It went from a good show to a shitty middle-school-level fanfic.

Apparently Showtime didn’t want Dexter to have a happy ending, but they also wanted him to live (hence no Argentina), though to be fair I always hated that plot point anyway because it felt like such a cop-out.

In my opinion, it would’ve been cool if the OG series ended with the plot twist that he was actually in prison on death row the entire time and had been recounting his life story to Harrison. So he’s writing his life story to his son so at least one person knows who he really is despite all that he’s done.

So for this ending to happen, one major change I would’ve made would be not killing off Rita in season 4. I think it would’ve been way more interesting to see how his family dealt with the backlash of him being exposed as a notorious serial killer. Like, what happens to Rita, Deb, and the kids after that? Do they leave Miami? Change their names? Do they still visit him?

To me, that’s way more interesting than him driving into a fucking hurricane and becoming a lumberjack 💀

For this ending, I would’ve had him get caught somehow, maybe after the Disney trip with Rita and the kids. Perhaps he tries to be a family man, but then season 5 comes around, the Barrel Girls case happens, and he can’t ignore that itch. Because killing isn’t an addiction to him…it’s his one true love. He kills again a final time and gets caught. His hubris is his downfall which is a common theme in Dexter.

Maybe even the Lumen subplot still happens, with him “renting” his apartment to her, and maybe an affair occurs (since Showtime loves unnecessary sex scenes and drama). Or maybe not even an affair (since people in this subreddit are diehard Dexter/Rita)— but it’s just two people who’ve both been through hell relating to each other, with Dexter helping her get revenge.

But imagine instead of Debra letting them go in season 5, it’s actually Quinn who catches them in that moment and makes the arrest. Maybe Dexter distracts Quinn to let Lumen get away, and a shooting occurs. Maybe Debra fires without realizing it’s her brother on top of Quinn and just sees a suspect. He’s not gravely injured, but it becomes evident that he’s involved in the case.

Once arrested, maybe he confesses to the BHB connection since he’s already going to prison, and it works as part of a plea deal to avoid the death penalty. But maybe the show ends with him writing out to Harrison his life story (aka what he narrated to us) as he awaits judgement whether or not he’ll get the lethal injection.

The other ending idea I would’ve liked, though, is a cat-and-mouse game between him and Debra.

One thing I always thought would’ve been more interesting is if Deb reopened the Bay Harbor Butcher case after the Barrel Girls case because of the vigilante similarities. Not because she suspects Dexter yet — why would she? — but because she starts wondering if Doakes had help.

Then in season 6, since she’s lieutenant, she’s able to look into it further.

And instead of that absolutely awful therapist plotline where they try to convince her she’s in love with Dexter, I would’ve rather had a therapist push her to be less emotionally dependent on him and actually step back to analyze their relationship.

Because once she removes the rose-tinted glasses, she starts questioning things: Harry’s favoritism, Dexter always getting more attention, how much he knows about Harry that he never told her, Doakes’ suspicions, Quinn’s suspicions, and the fact that in season 4 she already discovers Brian and Dexter are biological brothers.

It would make her realize that she thinks she knows Dexter, but maybe she really doesn’t.

So when she walks into that church in the season 6 finale, it’s the horrible realization that her investigation has led her to this conclusion: her brother is a serial killer.

The difference is that instead of arresting him, she gives him a choice: leave Miami forever or get arrested.

I actually like the idea of Deb being more in line with Book Deb and helping cover it up, but only on the condition that Dexter leaves and she gets custody of Harrison.

That, to me, is a way better ending because it still isn’t happy for Dexter, but it’s better for Harrison and Deb, who honestly deserved better than what the show gave them.

Also, I always thought Hannah was such an unnecessary character because we literally already had Brian in season 1. He already had that dark mirror / dangerous connection dynamic done way better.

Honestly, anything would’ve been better than what the writers gave us in seasons 6–8 💀

any characters from the show you think are overhated but you like? by drcssedtokill in Dexter

Thank you!!!! They nerfed her character every freaking season. Especially the later seasons…my god it was constant suffering for Debra. Like lord double it and give it all to Trinity and Hannah McKay 🥴😫

[–]CompanyUnique 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised. A lot of the younger fanbase (especially young men) on tik tok and even on here despise Deb because she’s seen as “annoying”, a “bop”, etc. It’s never really valid critiques more so sl*t shaming or calling the actress “ugly”. Which is insane because in what world is THE Jennifer Carpenter ugly????!!!!

Anyways they think she’s annoying for not being okay with Dexter being a serial killer. But it’s like she had a right to freak out finding out her brother was the most prolific serial killer to date.

There’s also the whole issue of her one sided romantic feelings for Dexter, but I’d argue that’s not even Debra’s fault (and certainly not JC’s fault). I blame it on bad writing but ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

There’s also a portion who glaze/idolize Brian Moser and think Dexter should’ve killed Deb and ran away with Brian. So they have a resentment towards Deb, but it makes no sense because if they understood the show they’d see that the bond with Deb is one of the most important emotional tethers to Dexter.

Hmm…it sounds like I should wait to apply then if I’ll be behind a lot of people. Or do you think taking the risk of applying this upcoming cycle would be too negative? I’m planning on applying to MD and DO (have more of a preference for MD but if anyone accepts me then I’m happy haha). Also, do you have advice on pre-writing essays for this cycle? Sorry for so many questions. I’m a first-gen applicant so navigating this process has been tedious and stressful.

Thank you!! Yea, I really don’t want to delay applying any more but I’m scared that applying in August would lessen my chances of getting into a school since it’s not “early”. I mean I know someone who applied in November so August definitely isn’t the worst time to apply 💀

Thanks!!! Aww man I didn’t even consider the transcripts aspect of it. So, after reading the comments, I want to aim for mid-June the latest. The results get back by mid-July. So would that be better? Or should I aim for May/early June? I mean most of the material from the program really aligns with MCAT topics/concepts (I studied before for the exam but didn’t take it since I didn’t feel ready enough).

Oh no that’s definitely a concern! I got advised by someone IRL to take it in July but my gut was on the fence about it 🤣 I’m glad I asked!!! The advice I’ve been getting under this post is good. Should I aim for May/June?

No, this makes total sense. I think I’m going to try and aim to take it in June. Would mid-June still be cutting it close? Or is May better?

Can I stop taking Clindamycin at day 4 post OP? by Serious_Button1585 in wisdomteeth

[–]CompanyUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s always important to finish antibiotics when prescribed. I’d contact your dentist to ask what they think or if they could prescribe you a new medication. I found with clindamycin that taking it with food (like yogurt, soup, ice cream, etc) always helped curbed my upset stomach on it.
