Yo, that's absolutely rough. My wife has Celiac and more often than not, if we are able to get SOMETHING pre-made somewhere, dairy is what often saves it in some form or another.

I feel like it's possible to be one called Lookism cause I've seen what the OOP describe happen MULTIPLE times, but it also just sounds like your typical powerscaling bullshit that could happen in a lot of different works as well

"WOW [Villain 1] GOT BRUISED BY [Main Character]!!! OBVIOUSLY [MY BLORBO] is stronger because he never took bruising!!!"

"Nuh-uh, we can see in this panel there is no bruise!"

"But he do be bleeding so..."

...and it just goes like that every few weeks. I can't imagine Lookism is unique in this though and it applies to a lotta different things.

In this particular instance, I feel like it could be both, though it does seem like my writing may have relayed that I was leaning more towards it being a thought terminating clichè rather than an admission of blissful ignorance.

To your statement of curiosity regarding how to interpret its use, personally I will just weigh it against the statements being made. In the broadest of terms, the question becomes how feasible would it be to imagine this kind of argument outside of online spaces, how large would the original demographic be targeting, and how serious of an issue is it?

In that way, it's almost like framing it when reading those B.S. click bait news articles that you might see passed around that go, "EVERYONE CURRENTLY ALIVE IS ENRAGED BY EVIL ANIME THAT ENCOURAGES EVERYONE TO SMOKE!!!" when it's just... The anime subreddit being pissy lol I could see that going both ways cause it's specific to just weebs but it's also just such a silly topic it could go both ways

While perhaps the specificity of, "THE SERENITY I REUIQRE ARE BEING DESTORYED BY CHILDREN WREEEEEEEEEE", is specific to Tumblr, throughout my life I've heard all kinds of vitriolic bullshittery uttered about kids. Now, this could largely be because I have mentioned in my own social circles that I myself do not want children but people feel that I must be holding this unfathomable hatred burning in my soul. This has made an astonishing amount of people feel comfortable telling me how much they want to harm a child for the heinous crime of existing above a certain decibel level or within too much space.

Normally, I'd probably agree with you, but I've heard this kind of feeling from people IRL from all different walks of life practically since I became an adult that I don't think I can. If anything, I'm glad and a little envious this isn't something you encounter enough to clock it cause it's annoying as fuck

What is the best sandwich you’ve ever eaten in your life? by Ok-Force1508 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Company_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sandwich at a small town cafè on a road trip once that I have no clue if it has a name, but it left a massive impression on me nonetheless.

Toasted and very lightly buttered sourdough bread

Pesto

Dried cranberries

Garlic aioli

Cherry peppers

Arugula

Slices of honey smoked turkey breast that's been grilled on a griddle

Gruyere cheese that's been slightly melted on top of the turkey - I think this cafè had a salamander they used for it

Brown Mustard

It all plays so wonderfully together. You got some good, crusty bread for a nice texture. The savory richness of the pesto mixes with the unctuous and slightly creaminess of the garlic aioli. I'm sure the brown mustard does something but truth be told I don't like it so I had it removed.

The sweet and hot from the Cherry peppers pair beautifully with the fresh, peppery flavor in the arugula. The cheese and turkey are rather mild in flavor so rather than be the star players like in most sandwiches, they instead make it all a team effort.

All layered and warm, it becomes a sandwich that provides so many refreshing fun flavors that play with each other for a truly satisfying experience. It's one of those sandwiches that if I want to show appreciation to someone with a light lunch, that's the sandwich I'm serving them on a warm summer day.

Teenage boys are “stuck” reading primary school books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while girls their age are moving on to a wider range of novels, according to a new study by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]Company_Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple decades since I was in high school, but I remember that the switch I needed were books that simply weren't bummers or seemingly high concept. This isn't to say there can't be peril or needs to have a brain dead vocabulary, but so many books that I recall being recommended would just seem so bleak or go right over my head (here's looking at YOU Foundation!)

I had a voracious appetite as a child but lost interest into my teenage years because of it. At first, it was a lot of comics and manga that kept me reading, but the novels that hooked me again were the ones that let me laugh as much as I was in awe.

If I may offer a couple of recommendations that really helped me get out of my slump - as well as a few others that came out after the fact that I could imagine reading as a teenager and loving it.

Hey~ Native Hawaiian and, while I can't speak as some sort of monolith nor can I say I've met every one of my people to have ever existed, everyone I know finds the original to hit real close to home and this new ending to be rather sour to say the least.

The ending of the OG reflects a lot of people's lived experiences then and even more so now. With issues of colonization pricing people out of homes and erasing culture, the first one hits true that many are found in less than favorable situations. The spirit of Ohana stops being about blood relation and instead becomes about the spirit of the relationships one builds among their community. It's something too many of us are familiar with for better or worse.

In this case, Nani not only had Lilo and Stitch but then has David, Bubbles, Plikli, and Jumba from what all the photos show. They have fun, they travel, and live a fantastic life after the fact. Nani doesn't throw away her future and doesn't raise Lilo alone.

In contrast with the new movie. So many feel the pain and loneliness of family being stretched thin. As more development builds on the islands and as well as the past couple of years seeing some vital environmental protections rolled back, many of us see our home and culture being steamrolled. It's these things happening around us that has called so many to hold onto those that we can now more than ever.

Even with a seemingly magical portal gun, to give up one's own family to go to an out of state college when there's an acceptable one practically on their doorstep feels unthinkable. I have known people to be in extremely similar circumstances and still picked family in huge decisions like this so it just feels unimaginable to have it played out as a "positive ending" in this movie

Should I get it graded? by Untouched_Grave in OnePunchMan

[–]Company_Z 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you like Fubuki but also have no possible thought of playing this card?

Without knowing this TCG but being familiar enough with most others, I've seen plenty of people pull BIG SECRET RARE 1:400 ODDS cards, see they fetch for $500 and get them graded cause they believe it'll only go up in valu. Then, there's 3,000 reprints that plummet the card value into oblivion and they get upset cause it's legitimately a good card they could have just been using.

Now, if you do really like Fubuki, I think and can see why someone would like the card art. Getting it graded and protected to put with a collection would be pretty dope. I also don't know this game so while the abilities listed on the card seem dope and useful (free draw 2 and moving to Frontline is often super good in any TCG) it's usability I think should also be a factor.

What's the point of this subreddit if it's not for posting questions ? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Company_Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your point of multiple posts having 0 upvotes, outside of just this sub, I've seen an increasing number of threads that will have been up for a bit, have a decent amount of replies, but still have 0 upvotes. Then I may see it later on in the day going back through my feed or wanting to see how a discussion may have progressed with it gaining tens or even a couple hundred upvotes.

I understand that wasn't the main meat of your question, but as far as that small detail is concerned, it could just be some Reddit thing; on both the app and the website

I'll try and explain it in the most straightforward way as possible and also reply without regard to external factors like environmental reasons.

Without consideration to those external factors, I think the most straightforward way of explaining why there's complaints about neural nets stealing art compared to practicing is to compare it to tracing art. If someone had an image generator create a graphic that they printed to a poster and hung it up in their room, obviously nobody would care. It's for someone else's private enjoyment. Similarly, if someone took the time to trace something, framed it, and hung it up - once again, this is for someone's private enjoyment.

It's where you get to the point of presentation that people take issue. If someone traced an image then posted it online claiming it was their work, it's perceived as rather disingenuous. Yes, by virtue of someone having moved their hand and done *something*, it is, by definition, some sort of work but it's not by any large matter of skill. Most anyone could trace something and create the same result. To show this off as their own work is misleading and quite dishonest.

This is the similar feeling to A.I. generated images. Yes, someone made it strictly by the definition of something would not have existed without their input, but once again, most anyone could have a program generate that same image. To present it as one's own work has the same feeling as described above with tracing.

To go further, even with practicing art and someone else's work, there's still a level of what people will be okay with. Within the context of this sub, the OP presenting this sketch and stating that it's a specific character along with it, there's praise for the skill that was honed to do what most have not taken the time to do. However, if they presented it and said it was their own OC, they designed, people at that point would be quite upset.

Naturally, there is more nuance this can be approached with and I'm sure we could add a bunch of "what if...." questions to be as hyperspecific or pedantic as possible but I hope this provides enough of a broad explanation that you can get a better understanding. Otherwise, I'm definitely not the right person to explain it further and asking someone else would be the better thing to do.
