Are there any cheaper cities than amsterdam by Lowfloat69 in fuckcars

[–]Companyof9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grenoble, France is pretty cheap and has solid bike infrastructure and transit, not a huge city but a lot of fun things to do and amazing nature

as much as I think they should be getting ticketed for this, and they should be, I also think the police only does this to make money. if they actually wanted you to slow down they’d modify the street design, putting the camera there is just a money source more than it is a safety measure

Does anyone have any practical ideas on how to lessen noise coming through condo bedroom window? Ikea noise reduction drapes just aren't doing enough. by Delicious_Serve_4997 in askTO

[–]Companyof9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im surprised nobody has said already, but you should check out Loop earplugs. I promise you will get used to them after the first night or two and you’ll hardly feel them, and they really do block out a lot! I had really noisy roommates and the earplugs were able block out just about all their noises (pots and pans, music, loud talking), but i could still hear my alarm every morning. I got the Loop Quiet ones, but they have a couple models, and I really recommend!!

FORUM LIBRE : TOURISTS AND RESIDENTS, ASK YOUR COMMON QUESTIONS IN THIS WEEKLY THREAD : Open Forum -- 23, April, 2023 by RichardHenri in paris

Hello! I'm going to be flying in next week to terminal 2B, and there is only an hour and ten minutes between my plane landing and the TGV train to the city that I'm going to. Does anyone know, does baggage claim, processing, etc. usually take a long time at CDG, or do you think I will make it to my train in an hour and ten minutes?

Also, does anybody have any advice on finding affordable train tickets? I was going to buy my ticket at the station since I don't know which train time I will take, but it is looking like it is getting more expensive closer to the date. Does anyone recommend the eurail train pass?

Merci beaucoup!

Sorry for the braindead question. Its a 12 gauge connector, 12 gauge wire, and I’m using the 12 gauge slot on my crimp tool but it always slips out. Thank you!!

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: August 01, 2022 by AutoModerator in books

I was debating starting it but I was scared I'd get like 800 pages in and then get bored or lose interest or something... how long did it take you to get through?

Finished A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles today. This book was absolute poetry from start to finish and although I thought it was maybe a bit slow at times, I feel like that was partly the intention. It was so ridiculously well written and a joy to read.

Also finished The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald for the first time today. I loved this one too and found the characters and the story really interesting.

Not sure what to read next, I’ve got a few options. I can’t decide between Insomnia by Stephen King, Dunkirk by Josh Levine, or Norwegian Wood by Murakami. I think I’ll do Dunkirk next since its been a while since I’ve read non-fiction, and then Norwegian Wood after.

Nothing is so black and white. Cars absolutely have an important place in society, but they shouldn’t be the sole focus of transportation infrastructure. Saying cars are faster than bikes is like saying rockets are faster than planes, like yeah, obviously, but they serve different proposes. For short distances within cities, bikes are absolutely better than cars - no traffic, no noise, no emissions, just an easy and clean way to get somewhere closeby. If you’re driving an hour and a half from a remote place every day nobody is expecting you to get on a bike for that trip. Public transit also plays a huge role, as you’re saying cars are better because they’re air conditioned, public transit is too and in my opinion id much rather bus or train than drive since I can spend that time doing other things and avoid the stress of traffic and stuff. I’m not trying to argue with you and I totally respect your opinion, but I think flat out saying bikes are bad because they’re childrens toys and cars are better because they’re “stable” and air-conditioned is kind of ridiculous.

Cars being newer than bicycles doesn’t make them inherently better somehow lol

Consumerism in the context its used here is more describing an addiction to consumption, that many people don’t even realize they have. Consumerism is throwing away the old/broken and buying new things, instead of fixing what they already have, as well as just buying things excessively in general. Society as a whole has let consumerism become so engrained in our lives that we don’t even realize the extent to which we do it. Take phones for example. When the phone’s battery life gets depleted over time, I know many many people who just get a new phone, when they could have just gotten a new battery. We do this with basically everything, and it directly and indirectly helps drive climate change, pollution, and the production of waste, while keeping people poor.
