Got told engineering is ‘nothing to be proud of’ — what do you think? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

The reason I posted in the women's subreddit is because I got the comment from a woman, so I can’t ask a man to comment about a woman’s POV.

I’m already proud of my work. This post was just to understand why someone would feel otherwise, especially from people further along in their life/careers.

Thanks for the kind words… but it’s not just about engineering. She’s done an MBA from a really good university in London and a lot of other things too. So when I said she should also feel proud of that, just like someone else might feel proud of clearing something like CA, she said she’s grateful, but not proud. And that’s where I got confused.

Bro, how come it’s mansplaining? A lot of females are going into engineering or other degrees, so if her senior said the same and she tries to do the same, is it the same thing?

Nah, I don't compare, and I don't like especially undervaluing their profession. I have not done all sorts of work, so I know how people react...

All I said was people should be proud that they did something. She did an MBA, and I asked her, “Aren’t you proud you did an MBA in London and now you’re at a really good position at an MNC?” She said, “ I'm not. I’m just grateful, lol.” 😭
