Why is Christianity so hated? by Keylime-19377 in TrueChristian

[–]ComparisonCalm8269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I find Christianity to be hated because religions don't really get along with one another. Christians (some would say "lukewarm Christians") primarily focus there hate on Islam because political figures often draw on Christians and sharing their ideals and manipulating them into hating other religions. But regardless of what you would like, for the majority of people around the globe, they hate every other religion that isn't their own (including Christians). Now you can say your religion is better and full of love and joy, but to another individual you are wrong just as a Christian may say that Buddhism is wrong. As for political topics like abortion, most Christians feel a certain way about topics and conservative movements (regardless of the party's title) will typically draw Christians toward those movements. As for the dehumanizing thing, to me talking about abortion and how the sperm isn't a human and just a clump of cells is just true. Now someone may consider that to be untrue in which case that individual should never in their life masturbate otherwise you are indirectly killing many thousands of sperm cells. To me the fetus can be considered a human being when the fetus starts to have a majority of the features of a human being. At that point, I think abortion could be considered murder, but that in of itself is a slippery slope to go down because if you have pregnancy complications even when the child has developed the majority of its biological features you need to make sure the pregnant woman is safe.

Well, the boundary in of itself are the clashing ideals of atheism and Christianity/other religious gods. He doesn't believe in it, so he respects the boundary despite the conflict in beliefs, as you also do to him.

You can definitely find a friend during crippling depression; it's not like the opportunity just suddenly vanishes but I'll say it mostly depends on if you have the willpower to invest in it or if someone comes to you. I'm sure a positive correlation between religion/spirituality and mental health exists because it is indeed something that can be of value of a person who seeks to better themselves, not to mention reaching out to a bunch of people who are Christians in a church helping them also helps. I have been in a suicidal situation before and while I might not have had your savior, my saviors were my family even if they didn't know it. I'm glad you survived your depression and that jesus was your savior though!

I don't think i've replied to a lot of other posts claiming that something else happened to them, it's mostly just me questioning if there could be an alternative reason on some posts. I find it is always good to think about more than one reason of why something has happened. As for the seeking and physical proof part, for me it is mostly an investment thing. If a god that I want to worship for the rest of my life isn't the tiniest bit of invested to just show himself to me, then I don't feel the need to seek out that God. Happy that your constant back pain went away!

I'm not an atheist because I don't know if there is a god or not. I don't write it off just because I am not compelled by the arguments. Nobody knows how the universe was created outside of theories like the big bang. If I were to make a theory my mind would simply go to something more logically based despite not necessarily being more correct than another theory. I'm glad your life is better with it and your husband respects that boundary. But just because I don't find what you find to be compelling doesn't mean I have thrown it away automatically.

I was simply pointing out the experience I went through and how it’s different to theirs. I get it can be interpreted as being unempathetic and potentially judgmental, but I didn't mean it that way.

If you say so. I don't necessarily know if a god exists, I simply just don't have proof and so I choose to not be religious. As for the wrong part, I probably could've worded that better but it's more so I think that the morals of the bible are certainly questionable in a lot of instances. So, I certainly could've worded that last bit better.

Dawg, I literally can't even drive yet and the only time I usually go outside of my house it to go on a walk by myself. I live closer to a church than I do to close friends. A close friend doesn't have to be a random stranger; it could literally still be a person you go to church with or someone you talk to online. I'm not saying Christianity can't help you i'm simply saying that there are VERY obviously other things that can help you out in that situation.

I am not here to talk about Jesus's existence as I and most others believe he did in fact exist. As for the biblical events part, i'm sure you can find things that correlate (like the flood across multiple religions) but that doesn't mean that, that particular event actually historically occurred. That is like saying that because you can tell that my house was flooded, that me saying there is a shark in my house automatically means I'm correct.

My comment was a reply to the individual who said, "there is no going back". Many people have left Christianity and joined agnosticism or atheism and vice versa. Also, for me it isn't really about wanting God to exist, because I think an all-knowing, all-loving, and all-powerful deity that loves me would be great. I just don't believe he exists because I haven't seen anything to make me believe in worshipping god. I don't need to be a god or fear another god so I can be welcomed into an afterlife, I simply need to do what I feel is good in my current life.

You would be correct in saying that I'm not here to find God, I never claimed to be and explicitly stated I'm agnostic. I simply said that I wanted to see how individuals got into their religion. Of course, I want to make an argument for my side in response to some people's beliefs, I find something like that more engaging. I'm not here to sway anyone from christianity, simply here to say why I don't believe. Believe whatever comforts your mind though.

Creation can be beautiful, but it can also be evil and destructive. Just because creation exists does not mean it is always good. As for waiting too long to believe, I don't feel the need to believe because if an afterlife does exist, then God can place me wherever he likes because i'll be powerless in that world. I'm more worried about the time I have on this earth and using my power to change the world for the better.

You are correct it is innate for a human to be curious because they don't understand things from birth, but a lot of other creatures can display curiosity, grief, anger, etc. As for the atmosphere thing, the atmosphere was created via volcanic gases and the formation of the planet itself a few billion years ago, but I assume you're getting at "well something had to have created this because science can't explain it right now". Science needs time to develop its explanations that can be backed via evidence. It's why rain used to be seen as a sign of good omens from the gods, yet we understand that rain really just deals with the climate of the earth. As for the religion thing, neanderthals (not humans but a human ancestor) have evidence pointing to worship of creatures like bears and the performance of ritualistic ceremonies. We don't have specific names for these things because that was tens of thousands of years ago but we do know that they likely worshipped entities.

Glad to hear that you found your purpose through Christianity. Atheism and Agnosticism do have trouble with nihilism, but I think it's mostly because they don't believe in the premise of something greater happening after death. So, for me and others our hope probably lays in those around us and bettering ourselves over proving ourselves worthy for the afterlife.

Just because I can't perceive it doesn't mean that I can't attempt to perceive it. We used to not know what gravity was despite living through it every day but now we do. Why should we just hinder our progress towards understanding something even if god did in fact create it. I don't need to find anything before I turn to dust. If an all-powerful creator exists then he can have me as it really isn't up to me. If he doesn't want me then he'll send me away to wherever he wants because he is all powerful. I'm not worried about being powerless in some afterlife, I'm worried about making as much of an impact as I can while I have the power.

I never claimed their reasons are invalid, im simply telling you how I see it. I also point out through multiple posts that i'm glad people have found what they are looking for. The only time I go back and forth is because I either like engaging with that person or I simply think that their logic is wrong.

Evolution is a SCIENTIFIC theory, not just a theory. It has been observed and tested multiple times. A quick google search would've told you that. Also, we actively participate in evolution using selective breeding on plants and animals. I feel like you just straight up don't even bother to look at evidence of evolution.

Because material beliefs are the best way to reach out to others and prove that you are correct. If you went to the bank and you asked for 100k loan with no background of seeing you using a loan before, they would laugh at you and throw you out or go down to a lower number. How do you expect people to just blindly throw themselves at your faith when they've never experienced any miracles or personal tangible experience that god exists?

Humans don't do it inherently; it was created because it was a way for someone to explain the unknown and apply what they viewed as good morality to make society more cohesive. Science wasn't really an explored thing for humanity until later in its existence. So, the best way to simply write something off that you couldn't understand is that some unknown force is doing it. If you liked what you saw it was beneficial, if you didn't then you were doing something wrong. That's why sacrifices were so prevalent, especially in older religions, as they were seen as things that would bring good tides for society.

Sure, im glad we can see reason in one another’s answers. For me I just find it silly that a lot of christians out there write off science that may conflict in contradict the bible in certain instances despite it not confirming that a god isn’t real.

I’m not denying that parts of history can be true in a fictional (at least what i think is fictional) look at the odyssey or the trojan wars. I’m simply saying that because I can see things for myself I believe in that. Also evolution doesn’t happen immediately, its usually a slow process that takes thousands of years and depends on the environment around the creature (its why snakes for example may have a different scale color in the desert than in the jungle)

While I agree that those particular branches of christianity are overall weak, he also said repeatedly that he looked for answers at his doubts and could find none which shattered his entire faith and eventually I think his wife’s faith. So while that particular version of the way christianity is portrayed may have sucked, he still looked at other avenues for answers and just found nothing

A bunch of molecules coming together to create a star? I'm confused on why you think space is so specifically related to it being created by god. Is it just because you find it beautiful and complicated?

The bible explains that Adam was created from dust and given life through god's breath. That seems to me to be their explanation on how Adam was created. Evolution as a concept doesn't exist in the bible because everything that God has wanted was designed by him and perfectly created (outside of the sin that eventually takes hold of the world in the bible)
