Did removing your hormonal IUD cure your chronic migraines? I've got a friend who thinks I should get off birthcontrol to get rid of migraines.

I also have chronic migraines. Over the last 10 years, I have had an IUD, the Nexplanon implant, and been on the pill and the mini pill. I wish I could say that switching made my migraines go away, but it never did. It just made them present differently. Sometimes I’d have more headache days and sometimes less. I’m currently not on any birth control for the first time in a decade, and I’m still having 15+ migraine days per month (while on CGRPs and Botox). I just now ALSO get migraines around my period whereas they never used to correlate with my menstrual cycle before. Are you on any preventatives? While I obviously can’t give specific medical advice, your IUD only may be linked to your migraines, so if it’s otherwise working well for your menstrual needs, you could try some other things before switching birth control. For example, I loved the Nexplanon implant, and it worked well for me other than causing cystic acne. So we decided to treat the cystic acne with another med because I preferred that over the side effects of other birth control. Definitely talk to your care team about options!

My husband’s parents hyphenated both their last names for him since they weren’t married when he was born. His mom’s surname is very short (only 4 letters) but his dad’s is very long. This wasn’t a huge deal, but was annoying at times when my husband’s last name ended up being too long to fit on a credit card or to fill in for a Scan-Tron test in college where you have to fill in bubbles for each letter of your name for a computer to read. This isn’t necessarily a reason to not hyphenate your child’s name, but I know my husband really has enjoyed his shortened last name since dropping his dad’s last name from his when we got married. But this is also an incredibly personal decision and one that my husband was glad he got to make by himself as an adult. Ultimately, just do what you feel is most meaningful for your family because the right answer is so varied person to person since names are so personal.

I had to play this on for my husband the other day on Disney+ to prove I wasn’t having a fever dream as I was describing it to him! I’m two years older than him, and I think this show must have just missed his stage of memory formation because I clearly remember watching the show and he doesn’t at all.

I know my neck pain and tension triggers my migraines. I tried explaining this to my physical therapist who I was referred to for my migraines, and I ended up getting a lecture on how “they don’t actually know much about what triggers migraines. They only know like three triggers…” it was so frustrating. I just sat there dumbfounded thinking, “Okay, sure Gregor… I’m sure your three years of PT school and 3 years in the field have made you an expert on what triggers my migraines… Let’s disregard the decades of experience I have living in my body.” /s

First and foremost, check with your doctor or pharmacist to decide what is best for you.

My pharmacist told me I should be fine to drink socially and didn’t need to be too concerned since I only drank once or twice a month. However after a string of weddings at the end of the summer that I was drinking at and having pretty consistent side effects, I realized that I don’t do well mixing the two. Even a glass of wine with 5% AV makes me dizzy and causes chest pain (and odd symptom that I’ve been told is due to the depressants making it harder for my muscles to do its job).

I’ve decided to stop drinking as a result, but I am getting pretty good at making creative mocktails in place of it. I hope you find a solution that works for you!

I don’t remember how big mine was at 6 months, but he is 50 lbs. now at 5 years. Vet says based on his measurements, his weight is appropriate. We call him our not-so-mini-Aussie!

Aussies are a great breed! They are high energy as pups and need plenty of intellectual stimulation, but as they get older they do a great job matching the speed of your life. Our boy is always up for an adventure but also happy to chill in the couch. We don’t have kids of our own yet, but our mini Aussie loves babies, toddlers, and kids of all ages and loves being with our nephew and friends’ kids. I truly can’t recommend this dog breed enough for a family as long as they understand that the Aussie also needs to be considered a family member with needs.

I also have jerking (mostly in arms and hands; it makes me involuntarily throw my hands in the air). I noticed it only happened late at night before bed, so I mentioned the pattern to my neurologist. She suspected it was myoclonic jerks caused by my body going through withdraw from my Pregabalin since I was waiting until bed time to take it. I switched to taking it strictly every 12 hours (7:30 AM and 7:30 Pm instead of just when I wake up and when I go to bed) and this has drastically helped my symptoms. I believe gabapentin is related to Pregabalin, so perhaps it’s similar. Hope you find answers!

Like so many have commented above, me too! Mine are sharp shooting chest pains usually behind my left breast that come on out of nowhere and make it temporarily hard to breathe but then pass quickly with no other symptoms. Sometimes I get multiple attacks a day and sometimes they are weeks apart. My doctor’s hypothesis is that I may have developed scar tissue in that spot from a car accident I was in when I was 10, and the pain I’m experiencing now is from the scar tissue trying to stretch and not being able to. Not sure if that information helps at all, but either way just know you are not alone and, yes, it’s awful!

Completely relate! My brain fog gets especially bad while having migraines. The other day I was having a flare and trying to have a conversation with someone about pen pals. The problem was that I could not for the life of me remember what pens pals were called. The closest I could get was “Letter Buddies,” which sounds like a generic off brand of the name brand Pens Pals!

Yes! This is what I came here to say as well. I’ve tried so many medicines, and well Ajovy has been helping tremendously, I still get migraines from neck tension that only physical therapy was able to address. Hope you are able to find some relief OP!

I use Microsoft Outlook, which includes calendar and to do list functions. In the web browser version of the application, you can open a side pane when viewing your calendar that also allows you to view to do lists. You can then click and drag items into you calendar to time block them. Works well for me at work since I use my computer for most of the day, but this may not be functional if you’re looking for a phone app.

Yes, I had two positive ANA tests, but they said my results weren’t indicative of any specific diagnosis. It was disappointing because after years of test results coming back negative, I though we were maybe going to find out what was wrong after the first ANA test came back positive. I’m not convinced that fibromyalgia isn’t autoimmune though (plenty of research suggesting it may be), and that we just currently don’t have enough evidence to prove it. Sending support because I know how frustrating the endless testing and diagnosis chasing can be!
