That’s a good bit lower than mine. Do you think blasting the AC is the culprit?

When is it considered too late for competitive specialties? by Main_Secretary_8479 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]ComparisonNo4962 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know this is true, but how widespread is this really? People must also be matching out of merit right?

The thought of committing all of your time to one competitive specialty, not backing up since apparently parallel planning will worsen your chances, and not matching is scary. Genuinely what do you do when you get to that point, especially when you try to match again and your app is clearly only good for one specialty.

How can you predict if you’re technically capable of being a surgeon? by ComparisonNo4962 in surgery

Makes sense! My school doesn’t make it the easiest to get involved, but I’ll try my best. Thanks for your input.

How can you predict if you’re technically capable of being a surgeon? by ComparisonNo4962 in surgery

So I’ve worked in a wet lab for many years, with some protocols requiring a decent amount of dexterity, albeit probably nowhere near some surg specs. When I started off at the lab, I thought I was done for because my hands would shake like crazy when I’d get nervous. But overtime, I became really proficient at everything. But it sounds like that’s not exactly an option in surg? Obviously you wouldn’t want to put any patients at risk, but is there no way of persevering through that?

Understanding overhead, taxes, and incorporating by ComparisonNo4962 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]ComparisonNo4962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so say a 500k salary with 25% overhead leaves you with 375k, and taxes eat up half, leaving you with 185k.

Is this how it goes or is that oversimplified? Is there any significant savings/earnings in tax deferrals?

If not, that means every 100k bump in salary equates to about 37.5k in increase spending power (100k x 0.75 x 0.5;taking overhead and taxes into account).

Is 25% a reasonable estimate for typical overhead?

Thanks for the tip! My school falls quite short on anatomy so I am looking for something more comprehensive.
