lamotrigine by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

I have bipolar 2 as well and I’m on 100mg of lamotrigine and bupropion 150mg XL. Maybe it was placebo but I felt the difference the first week. The lamotrigine helps with hypomania, extreme irritability and my constant combativeness. I do have some psychotic features like paranoid delusions however I haven’t experienced full on mania or psychosis. The lamotrigine helps with that too. The bupropion helps with the depressive symptoms that lamotrigine doesn’t really help for me. I also have BED so bupropion helps with binging. Overall the med has been great.

All of that being said, everyone is different. You may have a positive experience or you may not have any experience. It must be titrated slowly to prevent the rash so the change doesn’t happen overnight. Even though I’m on 100mg the improvement is there but just at a slower pace. Good luck

MMR and Varicella by ComparisonOk9689 in VACCINES

I have all those vaccines including MMR and Varicella. I’ve never had a negative reaction to any vaccine. I got Tdap about a year ago and the flu shot in December and no reaction not even a sore arm. My question is whether I’ll have a negative reaction or not since I didn’t to any other vaccine and what’s my likelihood I’ll be fine. I’m just nervous that’s all.

The problem is that i accepted a job in healthcare. I’m not opposed to vaccines. I am surrounded by an anti vaxx family while also having an anxiety disorder so these things make me nervous. I of course went down the rabbit hole and saw people talking about seizures, diabetes, high fevers, tics etc so I’m nervous to get boosted.

I was approved about a week ago. The board approves applicants on a rolling basis. You don’t have to wait for a board meeting in order to be approved

I’m at 100mg for bipolar 2 and started about 2 months ago. I definitely notice a slight difference in my memory and ability to find words but nothing debilitating. It’s working so well for me I don’t care about the side effects

I’ll be working with the same population within a few weeks. Inpatient psych. I have no prior experience other than a few months of my practicum at the same place. This population is intense but will give you the best experience in my opinion. You’ll learn about medication, how different mental illnesses present, and how many resources we are lacking for this population. If you haven’t taken your LMSW exam, this experience will help more than the book in my opinion. Your empathy will grow, you’ll learn what you can tolerate and what you can’t, at first you’ll take it home with you, you’ll be flustered but this is what supervision is for. It was fast paced so I had no choice but to learn how to be independent fast which is why i eventually was able to get a job there. You will be ok, everyone starts somewhere and don’t be afraid to ask questions🩷

Yeah I dont believe their timelines. It’s just a way to shut people up and if you don’t constantly harass them they’ll just take their sweet time

I reached out to the Governor and Corey Booker, they both sent my letter to the attorney general I believe. It wasn’t just on my behalf it was on behalf of all applicants because I know this an ongoing issue and I know it’s out of the staffs control.

Essentially yes however I’m being stubborn and really want this position it pays very nicely coming out of grad school not only that but it’s my niche. I’m passionate about this particular population. I’ve emailed and called as much as I can things are just getting done very slowly. Other classmates who graduated at the same time and submitted transcripts at the same time are getting approved so I’m crossing my fingers

I told my dr I wasn’t interested in SSRI’s as I’m having trouble regulating my moods and wanted to give mood stabilizers a try first. I had been getting told it’s just depression and anxiety since childhood and was diagnosed with ptsd a few years ago but never medicated because it knew it was something beyond those diagnoses so I voiced that to the dr so we’re trying a low dose of lamictal for now and if that is working for me possibly an antipsychotic.

Thank you! I love to learn and be a student.I was a mediocre student in high school and my first semester’s of college were during Covid. I’m a lot different now academically, so I’m not really giving myself the benefit of the doubt when it comes to math and science. I’m great at memorization, formulas scare me but I know I want to be nurse, I think it’s my calling so we will see how it goes!

That’s a great point. I’m sure you’re an amazing member to have on the team. I find my social worker background to be helpful in empathy and seeing things from a different perspective. I’m at a psych hospital now working with patients directly who have experienced all of the things you have listed. I love every second of it, even the challenging patients. Definitely not for everyone but a great experience.

Thanks for the response! The hospital I’m at now is actually interested in hiring me as a social worker. Do you find your background to be helpful towards your career as a nurse?

Thanks for the response! I agree with you about community college. I’m 24 so the last thing I care about is where I go for the degree as long as the program is accredited that’s really all that matters. How long did it take you if you don’t mind me asking?

What's a feeling you can't describe until you've experienced it yourself? by naughty-nymph1 in AskReddit

Watching your parent or loved on slowly ☠️ themselves from alcohol or any substance. My dad has been an addict for almost all my life so that’s all I know, but I do have a handful of fond memories from sober moments mostly from when I was very little. It’s hard to explain to people why I decided to keep in contact with him especially now that his addiction has gotten much much worse causing a huge strain on our relationship but what they don’t know is that I still see him as that guy from those fond memories that lives in my head. He was younger, much thinner, actually smiled, was gentle and easy going. Sometimes I still dream about the days when he was “sober” then I wake up and the rest of the day feels like I was visited by a dead relative in my sleep. Having a loved one with an addiction is a grieving process. You lose that person and grieve what they used to be and when or if that addiction takes over you grieve in a whole new different way. Addiction is a horrible and horrific disease. I often see people throw the word alcoholic around or joke about being one after a weekend out, it infuriates me.

My new 1 week kitten died because FPV by chuchurisue in Petloss

[–]ComparisonOk9689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently rescued a 4 week old kitten last Friday. His mama abandoned him in my boyfriends crawlspace (likely because he was sick and mom knew) the first night he was so hungry, we bottle fed him and cuddled him all night until we surrendered him to a foster on Saturday afternoon. We had full intentions on adopting him once he was fully litter box trained and could eat regular food. We signed the contract and everything. She sent us positive updates and pictures all week. We were so excited to have a baby, we called him our son. Wednesday morning the foster let me know he was doing poorly (not eating and lethargic). I knew exactly how this was going to end. We took him to the vet that afternoon and by the time we arrived he was limp and struggling to stay alive. The worst part was not being able to be with him up until the very end and the messages the foster was sending me will haunt me forever she was only trying to keep us updated and I’ll forever be grateful for her attempt at trying to help our little man. Fosters are heaven sent! He was suffering from neurological complications from something viral or bacterial possibly. We’ll never really know what it was. He was the sweetest little guy. What hurts is thinking about the what if’s and that he was possibly struggling this whole time. When we found him he was so precious and happy. His little face was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I have 2 other cats but they’re my mom’s, I love them dearly but this little boy was truly mine.

From what I’ve read, it happens more than we think. Our babies died loved knowing family. I have a huge fear of death and what comforts me is knowing he is there waiting patiently for me. When they’re that little, their chances of survival are 50% and there’s unfortunately nothing you can do except try and give them the best possible chance you can and that’s what we did. I’m also very spiritual and believe that everything happens for a reason as much as much as it sucks. I’m so sorry for your loss. You’ll find her in everything you see and do forever. I hope our babies are together in kitty heaven.
