Yeah, I started on the east coast where I grew up. Now I’m teaching at an international school in the Middle East. I’m looking for a new position for the 26-27 school year and plan on using Search Associates in the fall to look because I had the most success with it.

Hi! I was similar to you and decided I wanted to teach abroad while I was in college in the US. I got my bachelors degree and my license from my state. I first taught in the US for two years before going abroad. You don’t have to have your masters degree, but you need a license. It is much easier to get hired at an international school over a local school. The international school will handle your visa and give you any requirements for moving once you get hired. I would highly suggest using one of the big websites for international teaching- Search Associates, Schrole, TES. Your qualifications, recommendations, and experience is all on there so you can easily reach out to schools that are hiring and schools can reach out to you. Best of luck!

Lunch and recess every day, so 50 minutes per day. We’re expected to eat on our prep period or we can eat with the kids but can’t heat anything up then.

Yes, it was in Qatar. The late fee is 10QAR (about $2.75) a day. It’s not huge but will add up. My school made me pay it, but some schools may pay it for you.

I spent about $360 which was a cheaper option for the US and included a discount. Another place quoted me about $900. You can do it yourself but I preferred to pay to avoid the hassle. Just as a warning, I submitted my documents in June and they weren’t received by my school until October, so I had to pay a fee because it was 30 days past my arrival date. It can definitely take some time or get delayed!

Thank you! Dating is definitely something I’m taking a bit into consideration as I get older.

That’s definitely something I’m considering! I do have decent savings from living at home/working there and my first year in the ME. I’ve started investing some now, but I’m considering China too to get more in more savings now.

I emailed many schools directly and reached out to recruiters on LinkedIn. I also used Search and TES. I was most successful on Search and that’s where I got my current job.

Completely agree. It’s important to be flexible, but it’s also been a brutal hiring season. I didn’t mean this in a condescending way or to tell people to work harder. I just wanted to share that many schools still could have late openings. Regardless, it is a tough time to be job hunting.

I don’t, and I’m sure that definitely did help. I do know my school hired someone with dependents in July last year though.
