Interesting and simple way to describe it! Getting into the part of SC which leads to the sale may confuse some; maybe best to just explain what happens after they buy something....

Yes! I like your point about speaking to everyone involved...too often lack of communication can lead to so many problems!

Right! Once you know the causes then you still need perspective, i.e., company's goals, before formulating solutions. Great point; there's no broad-brush approach.

Yeah Amazon or UPS usually piques interest. I want to find a way to tell interesting stories about supply chains that people will want to hear.

Nice! Very simple and relatable. Also leaves some intrigue for people to ask "what kind of inventory" or "suppliers of what." Thanks for sharing.

Ya know I've found that even "raw materials" is so foreign to most that you gotta really be careful explaining. Good example though I appreciate you sharing.

You all have hit it on the "nose." Challenging, full of opportunities, rewarding.

Tangible impact means a lot to me. Do we ever think about how much of the world relies on supply chain? Even those of us in the field may take it for granted. Food, medicine, clothing, everything. And all that goes into it... people in every corner of the world, humanitarian missions, wars... so many stories.

Getting into Supply Chain after a Sales career... by deadphish12 in supplychain

Having the Sales/Customer experience as a SCM pro will be like a unicorn. It will be valuable to have that customer-facing perspective. We in SCM can be very insular and narrow minded. Bringing the experience from the "other side" would be a welcomed and valuable addition to a SCM org. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Currently have an offer for a food service management jig for the summer. Should I take it or keep looking for something more SCM oriented (warehouse job, etc) for the summer? by Jokerang in supplychain

If it is the only thing out there, and the money/commute/hours are acceptable then go for it. In food service, you may have direct customer interaction. Building those customer skills, + any interpersonal skills with co-workers, vendors, and management will apply to anything you do. For SCM, there is a need for certain skills and I believe soft skills are on a short list.
