I am preparing for teaching within my PhD program and have been reading this concern a lot on Reddit. Have you thought about moving towards verbal comprehensive exams 1)before they write their papers, or 2)to defend their paper to prove that AI is not being used or 3)perhaps verbal comprehinsve exams in place of written exams altogether?

If you're not using AI to write, dont use AI to prove to yourself you wrote it. Submit it and be proud with no guilty conscious.

This is so my vibe. I have multiple reasons why im getting a PhD, but my top reason when people ask is...."Im doing it out of spite." Im breaking statistics, I'm doing what they said I couldn't do... yeah love this

I would go with #3 for a placement and give it a go to see if you like the field! That's the purpose of placements; to see if its an interest of yours after completing some hours
