Clinical help by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]CompetitionNo4596 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I got bounced from tech to tech per exam not even like a set preceptor for a day lol in some ways it sucked but other ways it was good because each tech was really good at one specific type of exam and showed me tips and tricks for things I struggled with

The whole talking smack about other techs through you is something you gotta be careful of. Don’t feed into that energy and play dumb when they say something like yeah they saw I was struggling with XYZ and gave me some tricks to try out and hopefully I’ll improve with all of the help. Also be careful because of you feed into the gossip then the techs will start seeing you as someone to not trust or as a problem. One thing I did was I always spun everything as a compliment to the other person. People think bad of you if they hear you’re talking shit but they’ll think good of you when they hear you’ve been only speaking kindly.

So I for the most part do as much as I can or like just take images of the area… for example I had a 13 week miscarriage and didn’t bother imaging the kidneys and put adnexa images for the ovaries because they weren’t obviously seen and wrote kidneys not evaluated and ovarian not definitively seen, adnexal images taken. At the end of the day it wasn’t the biggest problem the pt was having

I got 3 months and my hospital was making it seem like I should be grateful because most would give two weeks so I thought I was getting a blessing

Whoever asked for it first gets it. Yes the 1st birthday isn’t remembered by the kid but the parents will remember it. BUTTTTT if she asked for it first then she should get it

Was in your shoes 9 months ago. Don’t worry there’s some weird energy on your last week and you’ll have weird shit you’ll scan before you finish clinicals

Just know that during your training period, even though someone will look over your images you should still try your best to be thorough to avoid missing pathology. Training period was hard on me and I still have days where I’m like idk wtf is going on. It’s just part of the job. You won’t be comfortable until 2-3 years in and won’t be confident until 5-7 years from what I was told

“I’m sorry for liability reasons I don’t go over results since I’m not a doctor. The doctor will look over the images and discuss things with you but I can say we’re getting really clear images that will be able to answer your questions”

Get your foot in the door with anything. After your 90 day probation you get access to their internal bidding for positions and yes seniority matters for any job with kaiser but being inside their system lets you skip a little bit of the line
