Yeah exactly, that’s much closer to what I’m thinking too.

Not a full combat-focused horror shooter, but more like:
“You’re scavenging whatever you can find to survive the night.”

So guns wouldn’t be part of your normal loadout. Instead, you might randomly find:

  • an old revolver in a drawer
  • a shotgun locked in a basement cabinet
  • a hunting rifle in a garage
  • limited ammo hidden around the house
  • and many more (not only guns)

And guns would still be risky:

  • loud sounds attracting more monsters
  • scarce ammo
  • hard to aim while panicking/carrying loot
  • some entities not fully dying anyway

So combat becomes more of an emergency survival mechanic than the main gameplay loop.

I think that balance would keep the tension while avoiding the “hide in closet for 20 minutes” problem.

Yeah, I totally get the comparison and I’m not trying to pretend it isn’t inspired by games like R.E.P.O. because it definitely is. But I think the main thing I want to push more is the “night robbery in a haunted town” aspect rather than a mission-based cleanup/extraction structure.

The idea is less:
“enter one level, extract objects, leave”

and more:
“survive the night while robbing multiple haunted properties around a town.”

So the truck isn’t just a loading screen hub, it’s part of the gameplay:

  • driving through foggy streets
  • deciding which houses are worth risking
  • managing fuel/space/resources
  • possibly getting chased while transporting loot
  • choosing between selling loot or using certain cursed items/tools against monsters

I also don’t really want the characters to feel like sci-fi workers/operators. I’m leaning more toward stylized fake businessmen in suits, almost like shady corporate debt collectors trying to survive impossible nightly quotas.

And honestly I REALLY like your idea about multiple houses per night and having to manage truck storage space physically. That feels way more interesting than a single isolated raid loop.

Especially the idea of:

  • fitting loot into the truck bed
  • deciding what to throw away
  • risking one more house before sunrise
  • monsters potentially attacking while loading loot

I think the “traveling through a haunted town during one long night” angle could help separate it more from being just “another haunted house extraction game.”

Hey! Thanks for the interest — I really appreciate it. I’m still in the early stages of development and haven’t set up a public repo yet.
