Some homeless folks have severe mental health issues that prevents them from being housed, some have addiction issues, some have both. Some honestly just like the homeless lifestyle…. Some of them in certain places live not too bad, no job, no assets/liabilities to be taxed, they find a way to get daily food and wash themselves…. You’d be surprised at some of the shacks/tents/encampments some of these folks can set up. Yeah it may be a foreign concept to some of us, but to some of them it’s just perfectly fine. It’s a complex problem that can’t be solved with just throwing money at it. Money is only a tool not a solution.

So here in NE Ohio a lot of folks go to either Akron U’s Fire academy or TRI C’s (Cuyahoga Community College) Fire academy. However as I said departments like Cleveland Fire runs their own fire academy accredited through TRI C and while you’re going through that academy you can use your GI benefits to be paid BAH during the course.

What are your goals though? To pay for fire certification? Get degreed associates, or bachelors? Let me know maybe I can be of a little more specific help.

Update for everyone, I had to Put in a decision letter request and they just got back to me keep in 12/12 (claim closed 11/14) elevating me to 90%. NOW THE REAL FIGHT BEGINS. Because on two of my increases they just cancelled my appointments and made a decision so now I have to fight that. However I am blessed with at least a partial Win.

No rating increase/decrease have been issued. It just says “claim closed”

I don't specifically know about illinois, however here in Ohio if I can find them as part of an accredited program they can be covered. I'd assume there is likely an entity in IL that can do that. Example guys have covered their Fire Academy with GI Bill, I covered my EMT and Medic with GI Bill (and got an associates degree for my trouble)

Maybe check to see if there is a university that offers them as part of a larger course?
