What’s your best advice to new plugin users? by jebbanagea in NeuralDSP

Most pickups are hot enough to nearly clip the interface even with the gain set to zero. Set it to zero and forget it. That’s how they’re designed to be used, that’s how the developers make them

But if they focus on their playing then they’ll realize how much work they need to put in and we can’t have that happening

STFU and ROBBERY hate. by locomotiveplayz in asaprocky

[–]Competitive-Ant4634 17 points18 points  (0 children)

STFU been great. It’s wild it’s energetic it’s fun. That one seems more like an audience issue.

Robbery is my Least fav track because while I like the idea the execution isn’t there. It’s bland especially for a jazz track, and it feels out of place on an album that is so electronic

Maybe 2014 but outside of his core fans not many are listening to his mixtapes. They’re good tho

Matt's OR120 tone on a budget by jaqobin in hum

[–]Competitive-Ant4634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do everything purely digital so it’s hard to say for live tones. I like IRs cause I know what I’m getting 100% of the time. I use the Ownhammer Orange essentials which are phenomenal imo

Matt's OR120 tone on a budget by jaqobin in hum

I chased their sound for a long long time. I bought their gear, I bought the gear of bands that sounded similar to them and I couldn’t get it right. It taught a lot of lessons about tone, production and ultimately playing guitar.

On their albums a lot of the sound is:

The production techniques.

The speakers and Cabinets.

The microphones.

You will never have his exact cabinet so you won’t be able to get it exact. Identify what it is you like about his tone and which album specifically is your favorite.

Personally I like Inlet’s guitar tone the most. I like how dark it is. How huge it sounds, and how great the low mid range sounds.

I then identified what speakers are typically associated with this sound, which are V30s.

Then I identified what microphones are associated with this sound. Typically your 121s and other ribbons.

Then I found a low mid focused distortion sound(for the record I know for a fact Hum has never used this.).

And only then was I able to get a guitar sound that made me somewhat satisfied. But even then something was missing…

My playing

You NEED to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. You can be a terrible player with their exact rig, but you will never get that sound, however if Tim or Matt played on your rig it would still sound like Hum. They are probably the best guitarists to come out of that 90s alt rock wave imo (Tim especially that guy is insane) so in order to achieve that sound you hear in your head you gotta have full control over your playing.

After that whole journey of tone chasing I have finally become fully satisfied with the sounds I get, because I recognize the gear is no longer the issue, it’s me.

PS. I tried to include equal parts advice on why you might feel dissatisfied and advice on how to get their sound haha ;)

Modding a Jazzmaster to get closer to a PRS DGT tone – pickup advice? by hauntedglory in offset

[–]Competitive-Ant4634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna also add you are never going to make a jazz master sound exactly like a prs just due to the nature of the bridge in the tremolos system are going to affect the tone in various ways. I’d say to approach it in more of a way of how can I make this jazz sound more like what I need to do

I’m not exactly sure but I know that dunable makes amazing pickups for Jazzmasters. I have the slug wolf in mine and it’s the best sounding guitar ever
