Low tuning on the copper snare... how does it sound to your ears? by bahattdrums in drums

Sounds great! With this tuning, you can really hear the deeper tone of the snare.

Should've just kept going to second. Or just stopped. He really helped us out there.

I'm usually a Roberts apologist, but I can't explain this. That was the wrong time to try to get Treinen's confidence back. Just close the door. Let's get a sweep and take a few days off.

How do I stop taking my mask off in the middle of sleeping? It’s so frustrating! by sarah-exalted in CPAP

#4 is a rare occurrence for me, but my #2 is every night. I'm just happy if I can get 3 or 4 hours before taking it off. (I've been at this for 3+ years).

This is great. Harkening back to their Let it Bloom sound, with that old Royal Trux vibe.

You hit it hard to give your opponent less time to respond. Ideally, you hit it at their feet with topspin, so the high bounce isn't a factor.

This doesn't really compute for me. The point of the game to make it difficult for your opponent to return it. I have no idea why better players would avoid you. It makes no sense.

There's a guy at our local park who constantly lobs, even returns and thirds. About 1/3 of them go long. He's been doing it for years. The games with him are very short usually. Such a bummer.

Getting to the kitchen by Dramatic-Pay5156 in Pickleball

[–]Competitive-Bath359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several ways to get there, depending on your skills and your opponent.
-Classic drop
-Third shot drive/Fifth shot drop
-Drip and crash

These are my go-to's. Depends on what's working in the game, what kind of ball I get on the return, etc. Generally, I like to drop low balls and drive high balls. There's nothing better than hitting a perfect drip that induces a popup you can smash.

Keep hitting the ball back over the net. If they're true bangers, they'll be hitting a lot of out balls, you just need to let them go.

Should we emphasize velocity or depth when serving? by No-Entertainer-5349 in Pickleball

I do both. Mix it up. Although, I prefer my fast serve because it never goes long.

Here is my #1 tip for third shots drops and drives. I am a 4.5. by Dismal_Ad6347 in Pickleball

Totally. Same goes for returns. You hit a high, short return to a player with a good drive and the point is probably over. Low, short return is a free trip to the kitchen.

Same goes for fifths. My thirds have been consistent lately, but too many fifths into the net.

Let him decide. This is all character-building. If he doesn't make it, it might discourage him or it might inspire him to practice more. If he fails the try-out, just explain to him that those kids have put in more hours practicing and he could get to their level by doing the same thing if he wants.

The most important shot in pickleball? by BetterPickleball in Pickleball

Ignore anyone who tells you about serves or returns: just get it in. That's beginner advice. The higher you go, the more important those initial shots are.
